It was shut down back on Jan. 2 because of a malfunction that prevented the cars from stopping at the stations. The work is covered by the contract for last year’s $8.2 million rehabilitation project, so it will not cost PRT or taxpayers any additional money.

Chinese New Year 2024: When is Lunar New Year? Know date, history, significance, traditions of the Year of the Dragon

Chinese New Year 2024: The festival is marked with pomp by many Asian countries.

(Also Read | Happy Chinese New Year 2024: Wishes, images, quotes, greetings, WhatsApp and Facebook status to celebrate Lunar New Year)

This year, the Chinese New Year falls on February 10. Generally, the festivities often last for 15 days, beginning a week ahead of the New Year. People make festive cakes and puddings to boost their growth in the upcoming year, hang red banners (Nian) at their homes, clean their homes, and hold family reunion dinners on Lunar New Year’s Eve.

A famous mythology says that there was a well-known underwater beast called Nian who used to crawl onto the land every New Year’s Eve to feast on human flesh and attack villages. It is said that Nian feared the colour red, loud noises, and fire. To ward off the monster, people put up red paper dragons on their doors, burned red lanterns all night and set off firecrackers. To this day, the Lunar New Year celebration is centred around removing bad luck and welcoming prosperity. Therefore, red is considered an auspicious colour to ring in the New Year. People dress up in red attire, decorate their homes with red paper lanterns and use red envelopes to give loved ones and friends money for the new year, symbolizing good wishes for the year ahead.

Presidents Day: Here’s why we don’t celebrate on George Washington’s real birthday

Presidents Day celebrates George Washington’s birthday, but the holiday doesn’t take place on the former president’s actual birthday.

The federal holiday also means government offices, the United States Postal Service and most banks and public schools will be closed. But what else is there to know about the holiday?

When is Presidents Day 2024?

Presidents Day is observed each year on the third Monday of February. This year, it falls on Feb. 19.

Is Presidents Day a federal holiday?

Yes. However, the U.S. government refers to Presidents Day as Washington’s Birthday, because that is the holiday’s name used in the law that specifies holidays for federal employees.

Americans celebrated Washington’s birthday each Feb. 22 until 1968, when Congress passed the Monday Holiday Law in an effort to provide more three-day weekends. Now, his birthday, also called Presidents Day, is observed on the third Monday of February.

US declines to rule out hitting targets in Iran, Jake Sullivan says

National security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday did not rule out the possibility of strikes in Iran in saying the U.S. will continue its military action in Iraq and Syria in response to last weekend’s deadly attack against U.S. troops in Jordan.

“I would just say, from the perspective of Tehran, if they chose to respond directly to the United States, they would be met with a swift and forceful response from us,” Sullivan said to host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

After new US strikes hit Yemen, Iran issues a warning about suspected spy ships in the Mideast

JERUSALEM (AP) — Iran issued a warning Sunday to the U.S. over potentially targeting two cargo ships in the Mideast long suspected of serving as forwarding operating base for Iranian commandos, just after America and the United Kingdom launched a massive airstrike campaign against Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

The statement from Iran on the Behshad and Saviz ships appeared to signal Tehran’s growing unease over the U.S. strikes in recent days in Iraq, Syria and Yemen targeting militias backed by the Islamic Republic.

Those attacks, themselves a retaliatory campaign for the killing of three U.S. soldiers and wounding of dozens of others in Jordan, all stem back to Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which has escalated tensions across the wider Middle East and raised fears about a regional conflict breaking out.

Pennsylvania film tax credit below surrounding states

Much of “Rustin” was shot in Allegheny County. The manager of Cinelease Studios says more productions would come to Pennsylvania if the tax credit was higher.

Much of the Oscar-nominated movie “Rustin” was shot in Warrendale, Allegheny County. Names of Pittsburgh neighbors are in the credits.

“Production office staff, the art department, all the construction workers — and that is a whole subsection of people as well because then there’s a paint department,” said Paul Haller, Pittsburgh studio manager for Cinelease Studios.

“Somewhere in the ballpark of about $2 billion spent locally, and those are dollars that aren’t going back to California or going into an actor’s pocket or sent over to foreign seas,” Cinelease general manager Gannon Murphy said. “Those are dollars that are going into local dry cleaners, those are dollars that are going into diners, those are dollars that are going into lumber mills, right? So it’s materials and it’s people, and that’s a significant amount of money.”

Cinelease has locations all over the country. Murphy says more productions would come to Pennsylvania if the tax credit was higher.

In April 2021, when Gov. Josh Shapiro was the state attorney general, he posted on social media that Pennsylvania’s film tax credit should be unlimited, or uncapped, like it is in Georgia, where the movie business is booming.

In 2022, Hollywood spent $200 million in Pennsylvania. Hollywood spent 22 times that amount in Georgia.

Steelers to hire Arthur Smith as OC, sources say

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers are expected to hire former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith as their next offensive coordinator, league sources confirmed to ESPN.

“We’re looking forward to have someone come in and take a fresh approach who can help our young players grow and perform and have the offense perform at a consistently high level,” Steelers owner Art Rooney II said Monday about an impending hire at the position, saying the hire would be made sooner rather than later.

Smith was fired by the Falcons earlier this month after compiling a 21-30 record in three consecutive 7-10 seasons without a playoff berth. Before his stint in Atlanta, Smith was the Tennessee Titans‘ offensive coordinator from 2019-20. Smith initially joined the Tennessee staff in 2011 as a defensive quality control coach and also worked as an offensive quality control coach, offensive line coach, assistant tight ends coach and tight ends coach before his promotion to offensive coordinator.

A grainy sonar image reignites excitement and skepticism over Earhart’s final flight

There’s new interest in one of the past century’s most alluring mysteries and a grainy sonar image is at the heart of both excitement and skepticism.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A grainy sonar image recorded by a private pilot has reinvigorated interest in one of the past century’s most alluring mysteries: What happened to Amelia Earhart when her plane vanished during her flight around the world in 1937?

Numerous expeditions have turned up nothing, only confirming that swaths of ocean floor held no trace of her twin-tailed monoplane. Tony Romeo now believes his new South Carolina-based sea exploration company captured an outline of the iconic American’s Lockheed 10-E Electra.

Archaeologists and explorers are hopeful. But whether the tousled-haired pilot’s plane lies at the roughly 16,000-foot (4,800-meter) depth remains to be seen. And debates abound about the proper handling of whatever object is discovered.
