3 dead after shooting in Pittsburgh’s Homewood South

Three people are dead after a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Homewood South neighborhood early Friday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the three people killed in Homewood South on Dec. 31 as Nandi Fitzgerald, 28, Denzel Nolan Jr., 13, and Tatiana Hill, 28.

A family member of two of the victims said that her sister and nephew were among the three. Wand Fitzgerald identified the mother and son as Nandi Fitzgerald and Denzel Nolan Jr.

Police are continuing to investigate. Details of any possible suspects have not been released.

Neighbors and community leaders, including Mayor-elect Ed Gainey met on Hamilton Avenue and Braddock Avenue to show their support for the victims’ families.

“We can’t go into the new year showing this is what we’re about. This is not us. We are a community of love,” Sheldon Oliver said.

Oliver organized what he called a “love gathering.”

“I never imagined it when I made a post asking what happened on Hamilton, I never knew we would have three victims murdered, so for me again I felt hurt,” said Amber Sloan, with the ‘MadeIt’ organization.

When police arrived to Hamilton Avenue around 4 a.m., they first found a woman who had been shot in the head. Then, while searching the house, SWAT officers found the two other victims. Medics pronounced all three dead at the scene.

Community leaders accepted donations for the family while gathering Friday night. GoFundMe pages have also been set up to raise money for the families of the victims.

“We’re just coming together to show strength in Pittsburgh as a community, as a people, as us,” Oliver said.

Antonio Brown leaves game, gets dumped by Buccaneers: What we know

Antonio Brown’s NFL career took another bizarre turn on Sunday when the wide receiver walked away from the Buccaneers’ game against the Jets.

Antonio Brown’s NFL career took another bizarre turn on Sunday when the wide receiver walked away from his team’s game at MetLife Stadium.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trailing the New York Jets 24-10 in the third quarter, Brown removed his uniform and pads before walking off the field shirtless. Brown tossed his gloves and shirt into the stands. He waved to fans as he jogged through the end zone and into the tunnel.

Beforehand, teammate Mike Evans appeared to try to calm down Brown, who had three catches for 26 yards in the game.

After Brown bailed on the Bucs, quarterback Tom Brady helped lead a comeback. Brady connected with Cyril Grayson for a 33-yard touchdown play with 15 seconds left to secure a 27-24 victory.

Why can’t we put a space station on the Moon? | Space

A space station on the moon could be very useful to provide future space missions with a stopping point between Earth and deeper space. Why haven’t we built one yet?

One reason we haven’t built a space station on the moon is that we don’t send people there very often. We have only managed to put astronauts on the moon six times so far. These moon landings took place in a three-year period between 1969 and 1972 and were part of a series of space missions called the Apollo missions.

The type of rocket used to get the astronauts to the moon was an extremely powerful one called a Saturn V, which is no longer produced. This means that, at the moment, we do not have a rocket powerful enough to get people to the moon – let alone build a space station there.

We are starting to build powerful rockets again. Space exploration company SpaceX is creating newer and bigger rockets which are capable of taking the weight of astronauts to the moon. NASA is also planning new missions to take astronauts to the moon.

However, there is a big difference between a short trip and building a space station on the moon, which is extremely difficult. One way to do it would be to build it in pieces on Earth, take the pieces to the moon and assemble them there. This would be like how the International Space Station was built: pieces were taken into space and then put together by astronauts aboard the space shuttle.

However, the International Space Station is only 250 miles (400 kilometers) from the surface of Earth. The moon is 230,000 miles (384,000 km). Each trip to the moon would take about three days and would require incredible amounts of fuel, potentially adding to climate problems on Earth.

A much better idea would be to build as much of the base as possible from materials found on the moon. Lunar concrete is being tested on Earth as a possible building material.

On Earth you would make concrete from gravel or sand, cement and water. We have none of those things on the moon, but what we do have is lunar dust and sulphur. These can be melted and mixed together. Once this mixture cools, it produces a solid material that is stronger than many materials we use on Earth.

Eric Adams sworn in as mayor of New York City | New York | The Guardian

Eric Adams is sworn in as Mayor of New York City.

New York City’s new mayor, Eric Adams, was sworn into office soon after midnight yesterday. It was a fitting time of day for a cop-turned-politico who has indicated that he plans to return some personal panache to a metropolis knocked by a pandemic, political strife and an outgoing mayor whose polling ranks beneath even Donald Trump with state voters.

For the moment, Adams’s administration is, as one acquaintance put it, “in the ether”. The Democrat told the city council last week: “We must allow our city to function. We have thrown $11bn at Covid, so the day has come when we need to learn to be smarter.”
