Second public hearing on Pittsburgh’s potential annexation Wilkinsburg is set for Thursday | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

For the second time since the idea of annexing the borough of Wilkinsburg was voted down by Pittsburgh City Council, council members will hold a public hearing on the prospect of that annexation.

The meeting will take place Thursday at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA in Councilman Ricky Burgess’ district, which borders Wilkinsburg.

Council rejected the annexation in February, after being mandated by a court order to have the vote, though that hasn’t meant the end for the possibility of Wilkinsburg joining the city.

At the time, council members committed to studying the issue further, which could include five more public hearings, two of which will be in Wilkinsburg if approved by leadership.

Four suspended Secret Service employees duped in case involving federal agent impostors – CBS News

Investigators allege that Arian Taherzadeh, 40, and Haider Ali, 35, who have each been charged with false impersonation of a federal officer, obtained paraphernalia, handguns and assault rifles used by federal law enforcement agencies. Then, according to the FBI, they allegedly used their fake associations with the U.S. government to cozy up to U.S. Secret Service officials with gifts and favors.

Two of the four suspended Secret Service officials are agents, and two are uniformed division officers. An FBI affidavit released Wednesday listed three of them as witnesses who have been interviewed extensively by the bureau.

The Secret Service investigation will also determine whether the USSS employees will be able to keep their security clearances.

Dozens of students are sick with some sort of stomach illness after a high school football banquet at a local hotel.

Parents say whatever they have, it’s a lot like the stomach flu or food poisoning. The Allegheny County Health Department is investigating.

Missile kills at least 52 at crowded Ukrainian train station

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A missile hit a train station in eastern Ukraine where thousands had gathered Friday, killing at least 52 and wounding dozens more in an attack on a crowd of mostly women and children trying to flee a new, looming Russian offensive, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attack, denounced by some as yet another war crime in the 6-week-old conflict, came as workers unearthed bodies from a mass grave in Bucha, a town near Ukraine’s capital where dozens of killings have been documented after a Russian pullout.

Photos from the station in Kramatorsk showed the dead covered with tarps, and the remnants of a rocket painted with the words “For the children,” which in Russian implied that children were being avenged by the strike, though the exact reason remained unclear. About 4,000 civilians had been in and around the station, heeding calls to leave before fighting intensifies in the Donbas region, the office of Ukraine’s prosecutor-general said.
