Joe Biden on Friday again refused to state whether he would attempt to pack the Supreme Court if elected president, saying in an interview that voters “don’t deserve” to know his position on the issue.
Some Democrats have suggested the party attempt to pack the Supreme Court, or increase the number of justices on the bench, if the party wins the presidency and a Senate majority in the November elections. The proposal comes as Republicans attempt to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the court, solidifying a 6-3 conservative majority.
Biden and running mate Senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) have repeatedly refused to state whether they support packing the court. However, Biden was again pressed on the issue during an interview by reporter Ross DiMattei of KTNV, a Las Vegas ABC affiliate.

‘It’s actually hard to believe anyone who says they love this country would do this,’ the owner of the farm said.
Organizers wanted to create a response to the signs and flags supporting President Donald Trump that outnumber Biden visuals in the rural community.
“We just did it to be heard,” Kate Pike, a manager of the farm, told USA TODAY. “We wanted to be louder.”

But at 6:42 p.m. Friday night, the Dalton Fire Department arrived at the farm after farmers spotted the 1,000-pound hay bales ablaze.
“Within about 24 hours is when it went up in flames,” Pike said. “So it didn’t take long.”
Dicken Crane, the farm’s owner, posted images of the fire on Facebook.
“It’s actually hard to believe anyone who says they love this country would do this,” he wrote.
The Dalton Police Department said they arrested Lonnie Durfee, 49, and charged him with burning personal property. He will be arraigned Tuesday. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Pike said she doesn’t know the individual personally but heard that he was boasting about the fire to friends shortly afterward.

Washington seems to be experiencing whiplash as the president throws wrenches into negotiations on Capitol Hill over coronavirus relief measures
The White House was preparing to unveil a new $1.8 trillion stimulus package, according to reports, after President Donald Trump blew up negotiations with Democrats and Republican leaders warned a Covid-19 relief bill was unlikely before Election Day.
US Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin was expected to discuss the new aid package with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D—Ca) during a meeting on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported, amid stalled negotiations on Capitol Hill over coronavirus relief.

This election is inescapable in Pennsylvania. On billboards, posters, on television, spray-painted on the sidewalks and walls, and every time you open up a webpage, the volume of political advertisements are overwhelming. But it isn’t presidential candidates that are taking up the space. Instead, the ads are more often instructions for voters on how to cast their ballot safely and securely in this most unusual of election years. It’s as if democracy itself is on the ballot here. In many ways, it is.
“We’re doing it as fast as we can. I certainly think there will be more to see before the election,” Pompeo says
Addressing the timing of the potential release of the emails, Pompeo said, “We’re doing it as fast as we can. I certainly think there will be more to see before the election.”
President Trump said this week that he had declassified documents from the investigation into Clinton’s use of the private server for e-mail during her tenure as secretary of state, America’s top diplomat. There are reportedly as many as 33,000 e-mails from Clinton’s private server that haven’t been released publicly.
“Pennsylvania has one set of numbers and the counties have a second set of numbers,” Fitton noted in last week’s Weekly Update. Mayor Bill Peduto on Friday recommended the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue from Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park, in agreement with a recent vote by the city’s Art Commission.
The Columbus statue should be temporarily stored elsewhere until determining a new private location where it can be displayed, Peduto said in a letter to the art commission.
“All four of my grandparents were Italian and personally experienced discrimination, yet learned to love their new country,” Peduto said in the letter. “I am tremendously proud to be part of the Italian-American community in Pittsburgh, just as I am proud to be mayor of the city of Pittsburgh and to represent all people of our city.
“After much thought and prayer I believe it is now time for us to return the Columbus statue to the Italian-American community that brought it into existence. They can preserve it in a manner than celebrates Italian-American culture, while acknowledging the wreckage that slavery and racism has done to America.”

PITTSBURGH — With many schools still conducting virtual learning, a working laptop is a cost many families cannot afford. A local man is now fixing up old computers to help out families in need.
“This COVID-19 has everyone’s life uprooted, working from home and teaching your children from home. Parents are stretched right now and they need all the help they can get. People are always buying the latest and greatest thing and throwing their old devices in the closet, which is where I come in,” Joseph Patrick said.
Patrick worked in IT for 30 years and said he’s fixed thousands of computers. When he heard that schools were delayed due to computer shortages, he took action. He started fixing up old, donated laptops and desktops and gave them away to families free of charge using the neighborhood app ‘Nextdoor’.

For months, millions of Americans grappling with the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic have been pinning their hopes on Congress delivering another round of financial relief, including direct cash payments and an extension of enhanced unemployment benefits. But the door for such assistance — slammed shut by President Donald Trump on Tuesday only for him to nudge it ajar later that day — is closing fast.
Mr. Trump is pushing for a more limited series of separate measures: stimulus checks, $25 billion in aid for the ailing airline industry and $135 billion in fresh loans for small businesses. Yet House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is championing a broader $2.2 trillion package passed by Democrats in the lower chamber last week, on Wednesday scoffed at the president’s idea of targeted relief.

The World Food Program, a United Nations agency that battles hunger and food insecurity around the world, has won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
The WFP, which feeds more than 90 million people a year, earned the highly-coveted award “for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict,” the Nobel Committee’s chair, Berit Reiss-Andersen, said Friday.

Republicans were baffled by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Thursday suggestion that she might introduce a bill allowing a body appointed by Congress to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office as he recovers from the novel coronavirus.
The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president to become acting president if it is determined that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” Currently, the vice president and cabinet can invoke that amendment.
“Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, come here tomorrow,” Pelosi said. “We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment.”
Pelosi was referring to a bill she will unveil Friday with Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., that would allow Congress to establish a permanent body to determine whether the president is fit for office: an Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity. The bill is expected to reflect legislation that Raskin introduced in 2017.
Still, Pelosi would have to convince Senate Republicans to go along with it. Plus, Vice President Mike Pence would also have to sign the declaration as well, which would be highly unlikely.
PELOSI QUESTIONS TRUMP’S HEALTH, SAYS ‘WE’RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE 25TH AMENDMENT’
Trump fired back at “Crazy Nancy” on Twitter. “Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation,” he said. “They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!”
Trump said during a FOX Business interview Thursday morning that he is “feeling good,” and does not believe he is “contagious at all.”
Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., noted previous attempts by Pelosi to remove Trump from office.
“@SpeakerPelosi will stop at NOTHING to take down @realDonaldTrump,” he wrote on Twitter. “First it was the Russia hoax, then sham impeachment. Now she’s trying to invoke the 25th amendment because he… fully recovered from the coronavirus? We won’t let her get away with it.”
Nearly 2.5 million people are expected to vote by mail.
Pennsylvania, which is emerging as one of the most critical battleground states in the November election, could see a record-number of voters cast their ballots this year.
“We think that our total voter registration may be at an all-time high,” Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar said during a press conference this week.About 8,908,777 people have registered to vote, Boockvar said, including 4,175,532 Democrats and 3,459,627 Republicans. About 875,191 had no affiliation or identified as independents, and 398,427 identified as other.
Nearly 2.5 million people are expected to vote by mail, according to Boockvar, who noted that this was the total amount of mail-in and absentee ballots that were expected to be approved.

The Pittsburgh Public Schools board has embarked on a focus on student arrests and involvement with the juvenile justice system by hiring a consultant to disaggregate its data on police calls for service, arrests and citations involving district students.
From the 2015-2016 school year through the 2019-2020 school year, Pittsburgh students were arrested by school police more than 2,500 times and a recent report by Black Girls Equity Alliance identified the district as the largest source of referrals for black girls in the county.
The board hired RMC Research Corporation at its legislative meeting Wednesday, at a cost of $17,000, to disaggregate the police data by year and student characteristics including gender, grade, age, race, Individualized Education Plan status and English language status. It will also identify the location, officer and offense category.

A stolen calligraphy scroll said to be worth millions has been found in Hong Kong, after it was cut in half.
Thieves had stolen the scroll by Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong from an art collector’s home in a burglary last month.
They then sold it at a fraction of its value. It was apparently cut up as the 2.8m-long (9ft) scroll was deemed too long to display, said Hong Kong police.
The original owner says the artwork’s value has been “definitely affected”.
The scroll contains stanzas of poetry handwritten by the founder of the People’s Republic of China. Its owner has claimed it is estimated to be worth around $300m (£230m), though it is not known how the valuation was obtained.

“The prison continues to follow all appropriate and currently recommended protocols to mitigate the spread of covid-19 to keep the employees and prison population safe,” according to a statement released by county commissioners.
Officials said both guards reported their positive tests on Wednesday. One had not been at the jail since Sept. 24 and the other was last at the facility on Oct. 3.
Wednesday’s cases were the first infections among the jail staff.

The Trump campaign is reportedly “exploring” a visit to Pittsburgh next week.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Reports say this potential visit from President Donald Trump would not be a rally, where typically hundreds or even thousands could be in attendance.
But the possibility of the president being here, while still having the coronavirus, is not sitting well with some local leaders.
Here’s what a New York Times reporter tweeted last night:
Mayor Bill Peduto responded on Twitter, as well.
Mayor Peduto’s assumption is correct.
However, according to the CDC, if you think or know you had COVID-19, you can be around others after 10 days since symptoms first appeared, have had 24 hours with no fever without the use of medications and you find other symptoms of the virus are improving.
On Wednesday, Sean Conley, President Trump’s doctor said the 74-year-old has been fever-free for more than four days and symptom-free for over 24 hours.
At this point, the Trump campaign has not publicly announced a visit to the city.
We’re also hearing from County Executive Rich Fitzgerald about the President possibly stopping by.
Demonstrators marched in Wauwatosa, Wis., Wednesday night to protest the decision not to charge a police officer in the killing of a Black 17-year-old youth in February.
Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah acted in self-defense by shooting Alvin Cole after police responded to a disturbance at a shopping mall. In a 14-page letter addressed to Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber, Chisholm presented details of the investigation into the incident and the reasons for his decision not to charge Mensah.
Chisholm said the investigation found that Cole had a stolen 9mm pistol which he displayed at the Mayfair Mall during an argument with another person. Chisholm said when police arrived and encountered Cole in the parking lot, he ran from officers, discharged the gun, refused to surrender it and was then fired on by Mensah.
“In this case,” concluded Chisholm, “there is sufficient evidence that Officer Mensah had an actual subjective belief that deadly force was necessary and that belief was objectively reasonable. I do not believe that the State could disprove self-defense or defense of others in this case and therefore could not meet the burden required to charge Officer Mensah.”
