Today’s total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime event in North Texas. We have the answers to your questions about the big day.

An estimated 44 million people, including 12 million here in Texas, live within the 115-mile-wide path of totality, where the moon will completely block out the sun.

While solar eclipses happen about twice a year, any given spot on the planet only sees temporary darkness from the moon’s shadow once every 400 years, according to the American Astronomical Society.

Police respond to Downtown stabbing, attempted robbery

A man told police that a stranger came up to him demanding his belongings. When the victim refused, the other man stabbed him.

A man was taken to the hospital after he told police he had been stabbed during an attempted robbery in downtown Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said the incident happened just before 1 p.m. in the 300 block of Third Avenue. A man told police that a stranger came up to him demanding his belongings. When the victim refused, the other man stabbed him.

The victim had stab wounds to his right hand and wrist as well as his left side. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

According to Public Safety, the victim could not provide a good description of the assailant or say where this alleged stabbing took place. Police could not locate a crime scene.

Pittsburgh police are investigating.

Bus filled with 56 students rolls over on I-10 – 11 injured, 2 medevaced

​Officials said two victims were taken from the scene by a helicopter, including the bus driver who was ejected at the time of the crash.

NEW ORLEANS — A charter bus carrying 56 students from the University of South Carolina rolled over while traveling on Interstate 10 headed to New Orleans, according to Nola.com.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday when the bus had a blowout and rolled on its side near the Diamondhead and Mississippi 603 exits, said the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

The westbound lanes of I-10 were blocked for hours as first responders and authorities helped students and cleared roadways, Nola.com reported.

Officials said school buses came to bring uninjured students to safety.

It is unknown if the students were traveling for a school event, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Cal Robertson said.

Going to the Pirates home opener? What you need to know

The first-place Pittsburgh Pirates open their home season Friday. They host the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch is set for 4:12 p.m. — a nod to the city’s 412 area code — at PNC Park on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. The weather forecast isn’t looking favorable. Attendance is, however.

The game is expected to be a sellout, said Pirates President Travis Williams during Tuesday’s media tour for the annual “What’s New at PNC Park” event. All fans will receive a magnetic schedule.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, there were a limited number of tickets available starting at $109.

Flooding, road closures continue along with rain

Road closures continue throughout the region as rain forces creeks and rivers out of their banks, and major flooding was predicted at the Youghiogheny River in Sutersville.

• Allegheny River in Harmar was just over 15 feet at 11:45 a.m. Flood stage is 17 feet. The river was expected to crest there at 16.30 feet at 8 a.m. Thursday.

• Allegheny River at Natrona Lock and Dam measured 16.54 feet at 11:15 a.m. Flood stage is 21 feet. The river was expected to crest at 18.10 feet at 8 a.m. Thursday.

• Allegheny River in Freeport was at 17 feet at 11:30 a.m. Flood stage is 23 feet. It was expected to crest at 18.80 feet at 2 a.m. Thursday.

Wrong-way crash shuts down part of eastbound I-70 in Westmoreland County early Sunday morning

Officials say a vehicle traveling the wrong way hit two tractor-trailers.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. in Rostraver Township, between I-70 Exit 46B to PA 51 and Exit 49 to Smithston, shutting down the eastbound lanes. The roadway stayed closed for a little over an hour.

Man, boy dead after dirt bike crash in Westmoreland County

The North Huntingdon Police Department said they received a report about two missing people on Sunday.

Authorities say they found the missing man and boy on Ridge Road near Abrams Drive.

The man has been identified as Adam J. Bilinsky, 19, from North Huntingdon Township. The age and identity of the boy have not been released at this time.

Woman charged following shooting in Duquesne

Allegheny County police confirmed that the shooting happened around 6:10 p.m. and that it was fatal.

DUQUESNE, Pa. —

A woman is charged with criminal homicide following a deadly shooting in Duquesne on Saturday evening.

Latiya Hicks, 24, of Braddock, is charged with criminal homicide.

Allegheny County police said that the shooting happened around 6:10 p.m. A man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest.

On Sunday morning, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Lamont Nichols, 30, of Pittsburgh.

Hicks faces a preliminary hearing in April.

Pittsburgh man arrested in Ohio human trafficking task force investigation, police say

A Pittsburgh man was arrested in a human trafficking investigation in Ohio.

According to the East Palestine Police Department, Wesley Theberge, 29, was arrested Friday during a Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force undercover operation.

Upon his arrest, police say they obtained a search warrant for the electronic devices Theberge had with him and found hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.

Theberge is being held in the Columbiana County Jail while awaiting a preliminary hearing. Online court records show he’s charged with pandering obscenity involving a minor, illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material, engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools.

A man died after a shooting in Chartiers on Monday night.

PITTSBURGH — A man died after a shooting in Chartiers on Monday night.

Pittsburgh police were called to the 1400 block of Harlow Street for a three-round ShotSpotter notification just before 10 p.m.

He was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Dump truck, pickup truck crash in Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A dump truck and a pickup truck crashed Monday morning in the city’s Highland Park neighborhood.

It happened around 8:40 a.m. at Washington Boulevard and Allegheny River Boulevard.
