Rare, 400-Year-Old Bible Stolen From US Library Found and Returned – Sputnik International

A Geneva Bible dating to 1615 that was stolen from a Pennsylvania library has been found in the Netherlands and returned to the US, authorities announced at a Thursday news conference.

The Bible, which has survived more than four centuries, was one of more than 300 items allegedly stolen from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as part of a 20-year scheme by a former archivist Gregory Priore, 62, and rare books dealer John Schulman, 54, local outlet KDKA reports, both of whom had long worked closely with the library. They have been charged with theft, conspiracy and forgery, among other counts.

Investigators traced the tome to the American Pilgrim Museum in Leiden, which had paid about $1,200 for it. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala explained that the director of the Leiden museum realized the Bible it had purchased belonged to the Carnegie Library and reached out to the institution. He’s “an honest man,” Zappala said, according to KDKA.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, on leave amid book probe, has homes and City Hall office raided by feds | Fox News

Federal agents raided two homes belonging to Baltimore’s embattled mayor as well as City Hall on Thursday amid ongoing investigations into lucrative sales of her “Healthy Holly” books.

The Democratic mayor, who is currently on a leave of absence she’s blamed on pneumonia, has faced mounting calls to resign after it was discovered she reportedly received $500,000 from the University of Maryland Medical System for her self-authored “Healthy Holly” children’s book series.

UMMS reportedly paid Pugh for 100,000 copies of her books between 2011 and 2018, while she was on its board, with the stated intention of distributing the books to schools and day care centers.

But some 50,000 copies remain unaccounted for and officials are probing if they were ever even printed.

Accused incest couple Steven and Katie Pladl, their infant dead in apparent multi-state murder-suicide – CBS News

An attorney for a man accused of having a baby with his daughter says the couple, the infant, and the woman’s adoptive father are dead

NEW MILFORD, Conn. — Police in three states are investigating the apparent murder-suicide deaths of a father and daughter accused of incest, their infant son, and the woman’s adoptive father.

Police in Knightdale, N.C. say they responded to a home around 9 a.m. where Steven Pladl, 45, and his biological daughter Katie Pladl, 20, were living when they were arrested on incest charges out of Henrico County, Va. in January. There, they found 7-month-old Bennett Pladl dead in a suspected homicide. No one else was in the home.

About 20 minutes earlier, 600 miles north in New Milford, Conn., police responded to a report of a shooting and found a man and a woman dead in a pickup truck with New York plates, the victims of a double homicide. Police developed information on a suspect vehicle, and when New York state troopers found the minivan several miles away across the state line in Dover, the suspected gunman was found inside — dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps confirmed the victims killed in the pickup truck were Katie Pladl and her adoptive father 56-year-old Anthony Fusco, and that the man who killed himself in New York was Steven Pladl.

Knightdale police confirmed to Crimesider that Steven Pladl is suspected in the death of his infant son in North Carolina.

BROOKFIELD, Ohio (KDKA) — An Ohio man is facing charges after he allegedly screamed at a woman and hit her in the face with a pizza Wednesday.

WKBN reports when officers arrived at the Masury home early Wednesday morning, they heard yelling inside, and when an officer tried to open the door, 24-year-old Kenneth Evans slammed it shut.

Police said Evans was screaming, belligerent and highly intoxicated, and the house was “trashed.”

Evans told police he had been arguing with a woman and flipped over a couch, but did not touch her.

According to WKBN, the woman told police Evans started screaming at her while she was driving him home, repeatedly pushed her head while she was driving and, at one point, hit her in the face with a pizza.

The woman said when they arrived at the home, Evans tried to fight a neighbor, threw tires into the road and smashed a mailbox.
