McKeesport SWAT situation ends with suspect in custody

A man has been taken into custody in McKeesport after allegedly threatened to stab his neighbors and police.

Sky 4 flew over the scene along Evans Avenue. Allegheny County SWAT personnel and several police officers could be seen responding to what McKeesport police Chief Mark Steele described as a man barricaded inside an apartment.

Steele said the man in question had threatened to stab his neighbors. When police arrived, the man ran back inside his own home.

Steele said he knocked on the man’s door. The man threatened to stab police if they tried to enter, at which point negotiators and Allegheny County SWAT were called to mobilize.

SWAT deployed tear gas, as well as another irritant, to draw the man out. Neighbors and reporters, including a Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 crew, could feel the irritating effects of the tear gas.
