PITTSBURGH —
Saturday is the day the long-anticipated ban on single-use plastic bags provided by retailers to customers will take effect inside the Pittsburgh city limits.
Pittsburgh’s Action News spoke with shoppers at the Giant Eagle Market District store at Waterworks Mall about what’s coming.
“I think it’s a good idea. I think it will take some adjusting for people. like for myself. I don’t actually live in the city of Pittsburgh, I live right outside. But I work in the city, I shop in the city. So (it means) having that mental note to make sure I have a bag with me to use. You know, put them in the car, make sure they’re there,” said shopper Deborah Weppelman.“I’m for it because it’s too much plastic messing up our waterways. So, just another thing we have to do in order to save the planet. I’m for it,” said shopper Essie Biglow.
Giant Eagle says in its case, it’s going to channel proceeds from that fee into organization efforts to benefit communities surrounding its Pittsburgh stores.
