A state police spokesperson tells Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 an off-duty trooper stopped to help at a crash scene in the eastbound lanes of the Parkway West.
While the trooper was out of his vehicle, he was hit by another vehicle approaching the scene.
The trooper was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche confirms the trooper is her son, Josh. She said he remains in the hospital Wednesday awaiting a second surgery.
“I cannot say enough about the PA State Police and how they care for their own and their families,” she said. “We are grateful for the support of Colonel Paris and Governor Shapiro in the aftermath of the event. Our family is overwhelmed by the love, prayers, and support from our community and beyond.”
