Brunot Island fire caused by reactor failure, officials say

Pittsburgh Public Safety said Duquesne Light Company was on the scene and reporting this is the “result of a reactor that catastrophically failed.”

The fires started around 8 p.m. at the Duquesne Light power station located on the island.

Assistant Pittsburgh Fire Chief Brian Kokkila said the reactor failure sparked multiple explosions which resulted in one large fire and several smaller fires throughout the station.
