New casino moves toward opening despite bankruptcy concerns at Westmoreland Mall

There is no cash on the staged blackjack tables inside the Westmoreland Mall, but there is potentially money on the line in the form of a job.

Dealer training classes, through Westmoreland County Community College, are now taking place in the hopes of hiring dozens of dealers for the new Live! Casino Pittsburgh being built in the mall. Casino officials said more than 100 dealers need to be hired to run the 30 table games that will be operating when the casino opens later this year.

The training class provides a glimpse into what things could look like when the casino opens. Each student and staff member goes through a thermal temperature scan, masks are mandatory and plexiglass is set up on and around gaming tables.

“We’re really creating an environment that is going to be safe for our staff and our guests,” Sullivan said.
