A Wilkinsburg man was arrested Friday after police said he was caught shoplifting and pulling a knife on a store employee.

Laberne Martin, 53, was taken into custody by police after fleeing the store.

Pittsburgh Police responded to the incident around 2:30 p.m. at the Family Dollar in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood.

Police said Martin stole various items from the store and took off after pulling a knife on an employee.

The store’s manager chased after Martin and gave police a physical description and the direction he was running in.

An Allegheny County Sheriff’s Deputy saw Martin at 20th Street near Jane Street and took him into custody without incident.
