A man was killed and a woman hurt Sunday night after the motorcycle they were on struck a deer in New Kensington, police Chief Bob Deringer said.

The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Route 366, Stevenson Boulevard.

According to Deringer, a 49-year-old man from Pittsburgh was operating the motorcycle and his passenger was a 38-year-old woman from Arnold. Their names were not released.

They hit the deer near Oates Boulevard, which is across from the Memorial Stadium at Valley High School.

The man was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, where Deringer said he later died from his injuries.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, where she was treated and released.

The crash remains under investigation, Deringer said.
