President Trump on Saturday praised an allied nation airstrike on the Assad regime in Syria, thanking France and the United Kingdom and declaring “Mission Accomplished!”

Syrian television reported that Syria’s air defenses, which are substantial, responded to the attack. Syrians poured into the streets for defiant demonstrations of their national pride.

Trump orders Syria strikes: Will attacks lead to US war with Russia? | Fox News

All sides of this conflict, no matter their loyalties, must work to end the Syrian Civil War once and for all. If not, a much greater crisis could be in the offing.

After President Trump’s Friday night announcement that U.S., French and British military forces have launched missile strikes against Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities in response to that nation’s recent deadly attack on its own citizens with poison gas, the world wonders: Will the American action spark a war between the U.S. and Russia?

CIA Director Mike Pompeo pointed out Thursday that the U.S. has already killed a large number of Russians in Syria. “A handful of weeks ago, the Russians met their match,” Pompeo said at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on his nomination to become secretary of state. “A couple hundred Russians were killed.”

Conor Lamb sworn in as congressman

Conor Lamb is the newest member of the House of Representatives.

“One of the the things I have my eye on is, they’ve decided they want to spend a lot of new money on the heroin epidemic, but we have to decide how much is going to go to law enforcement, how much is going to go to treatment, how much is going to go to prevention. I’d really like to be part of that debate,” Lamb said.

“Rick will be attending the rally and will be happy to say a few words in support of protecting our Second Amendment rights,” campaign spokeswoman Caitlin Carlisle said Wednesday in a statement.

CIA Operative Says Ted Kennedy Didn’t Know Mary Jo Kopechne Was in the Car at Chappaquiddick | TMZ.com

Ted Kennedy didn’t abandon Mary Jo Kopechne when his car plunged off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island.

We’ve been asked not to use the CIA person’s name, but he worked for the agency for decades. He says back in 1969, Kennedy was romantically involved with the wife of a very powerful politician, and if word got out about the affair Kennedy was afraid it would ruin his career.

The operative says the night of the accident Kennedy and some of his buddies were all drunk and drove to a party on the Island. They went there because the politician’s wife was at the party and Kennedy wanted to hook up with her. Mary Jo Kopechne was at the party … she and Kennedy were acquaintances but not romantically involved.

According to the operative, Mary Jo was drunk, said she had a headache, got up and said she was going into one of the bedrooms to lie down.

At some point later in the evening, Kennedy and the politician’s wife wanted “some alone time” and didn’t want to do anything in front of the group, so they got in the car and drove … eventually plunging off the bridge into the water. They both swam to shore safely. The operative says both were not injured.

The operative says unbeknownst to either Kennedy or the politician’s wife, Mary Jo apparently was unable to sleep in the house because of the noise, so she went into the back seat of the car where she fell asleep … which is where she died. At least one person at the party knew Mary Jo had gone into one of the cars and told authorities that after the accident.

Stephanie Fox, a victim, says it’s definitely a step in the right direction, but more is needed.

“I’ve been stabbed with a screwdriver. I have cigarette burns all over me. I’ve had my teeth knocked out and my jaw redone. I have a bullet in the back of my leg,” she said.

Fox says she was in an abusive relationship for 14 years and lost half as many jobs because she couldn’t go to work.

Queen Elizabeth II’s 96-year-old husband, Prince Philip, has been admitted to a London hospital for a previously scheduled hip surgery, Buckingham Palace said Tuesday.

The palace said the prince entered the King Edward VII Hospital in the afternoon and would have the surgery Wednesday. It said the hospital admission and surgery were planned.

Officials declined to provide additional details about the surgery and said “further updates will be issued when appropriate.”

The prince announced in May that he was retiring from most public duties after decades of royal service. The palace said at the time he had carried out roughly 22,000 solo royal engagements since Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952.

Gun rights activists hand out high-capacity magazines at Vermont rally

Gun rights activists were handing out high-capacity magazines at a rally outside the Vermont State House on Saturday to protest new legislation that would restrict them and increase gun control in the state.

Hundreds of protesters gathered to urge Republican Gov. Phil Scott not to sign a new bill that would ban high-capacity magazines and bump stocks, expand background checks for private gun sales and raise the legal age for gun purchases.

The measure was approved by the State House earlier this week and then again by the Senate on Friday in a 17-13 vote.

Protesters were handed nearly 1,200 high-capacity magazines, which hold 30 rounds of ammunition. A standard-capacity magazine holds around 10 rounds, according toCongressionalsportsmen.org, though this can vary.
