Amazon apologises for wrongly denying drivers need to urinate in bottles – BBC News

Amazon has apologised to a US politician for falsely denying that drivers are, at times, forced to urinate in plastic bottles.

Mark Pocan, a Democrat from Wisconsin, referenced Amazon making “workers urinate in water bottles” in a tweet.

The official Amazon Twitter account then replied: “If that were true, nobody would work for us.”

The company has now apologised after evidence emerged of drivers having to urinate in bottles.

Fallen debris from SpaceX rocket launch lands on a farm in central Washington | Space

A piece of debris from a SpaceX launch has turned up on someone’s farm in central Washington, local authorities reported Friday (April 2) — about one week after the falling rocket debris sparked reports of “shooting stars” the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the recovered object appears to be a composite overwrapped pressure vessel, or COPV, belonging to the second stage of the Falcon 9 rocket that launched March 4 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, on a mission dubbed Starlink 17.

“SpaceX recovered a Composite-Overwrapped Pressure Vessel from last week’s Falcon 9 re-entry. It was found on private property in southwest Grant County this week,” the Grant County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement on Twitter, adding that they would not provide the exact location or the name of the man whose property it fell on.

“Media and treasure hunters: we are not disclosing specifics. The property owner simply wants to be left alone,” the sheriff’s office said in the tweet.

Reports: Suspect killed outside Capitol identified as 25-year-old man | KOMO

WASHINGTON (SBG) — Authorities have identified the suspect and driver who killed a Capitol Police officer by ramming a car into a barrier has been identified, according to The Associated Press.Courtesy Christopher Newport University

Citing law enforcement sources, AP identified the man as 25-year-old Noah Green of Indiana. Investigators are still looking into Green’s background and if he had a history of mental health problems.

Authorities were also working to access his social media accounts.

On his accounts, Green described himself as a follower of the Nation of Islam and its founder, Louis Farrakhan, The Associated Press reported. Some of the posts spoke of going through a tough time where he leaned on his faith, according to messages captured by the group SITE, which tracks online activity.

“To be honest these past few years have been tough, and these past few months have been tougher,” he wrote. “I have been tried with some of the biggest, unimaginable tests in my life. I am currently now unemployed after I left my job partly due to afflictions, but ultimately, in search of a spiritual journey.”

A motive for the attack wasn’t immediately clear to investigators. However, authorities said there does not appear to be an ongoing threat and the incident wasn’t related to terrorism.

According to the U.S. Capitol Police, the incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. when the driver rammed a sedan into the North Barricade outside the U.S. Capitol. One officer, William ‘Billy’ Evans, died from his injuries.

The other officer is “in stable and non-threatening condition,” according to USCP.

Authorities said the driver was shot and killed when he tried to lunge at the officers with a knife.

Sharon Osbourne in great spirits after exit from ‘The Talk’

Sharon Osbourne appeared in great spirits Tuesday as she was spotted for the first since her contentious departure from “The Talk,” which a source told us left her with a multimillion-dollar payout.

On her way into lunch at the Sunset Marquis hotel in Hollywood, Osbourne gave a thumbs-up to a videographer who asked her how she’s doing. The former host then threw up the peace sign and appeared to smile underneath her face mask when asked if everything was good.

For the outing, Osbourne, 68, opted for a classic look that included a loosely-fitted black suit and white shirt accessorized with pearls.

Osbourne exited the CBS talk show on March 26 following accusations of racism.

“Sharon is walking away with a $5 to $10 million minimum payout and was able to spin that it was her decision [to leave the show],” a source previously told Page Six.

A separate source added that, under her departure agreement, Osbourne is free to tell her side of the story.

“Sharon will talk when she is ready,” the source said. “She still wants to give her side of the story. She has been on that show for 11 years and knows all the secrets.”

Protesting teacher chains herself to courthouse fence during Chauvin trial – StarTribune.com

Local high school teacher Kaia Hirt chained herself to a metal fence outside the Hennepin County Government Center on Monday evening in a protest pushing for police reform as the Derek Chauvin murder trial proceeded inside.

Hirt, who teaches 10th grade English at Champlin Park High School, said she was demonstrating to show her support for families of those who have been killed by police. She wants local politicians to do more to support police reform legislation.

“I’m frustrated by local and state officials’ failure to address racist policing in the community,” Hirt said, as she sat chained to a fence that authorities erected in the Government Center plaza as part of security precautions for the trial.

Bundled in a sweatshirt, blanket, and gloves, Hirt said she was relieved that Floyd’s family has been treated with dignity by authorities, but she noted that other families of those who have been killed in altercations with police are still hurting. She said those families need support as well

“We will not have justice until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are,” Hirt said.

When it comes to talking to students about racism and current events, Hirt said there is no such thing as political neutrality.

“When we say nothing about the things that are going on in our world … We are failing them as educators,” Hirt said.

Amazon union vote in Alabama puts organized labor in historic spotlight | Fox Business

The vote on whether or not to unionize workers at an Amazon facility in Alabama ended Monday amid the company’s feud with politicians over the issue, which has nationwide implications for organized labor.

Balloting in the Bessemer warehouse began in early February despite the company’s objections, including a push for in-person voting. Although tallying is expected to take place on Tuesday, results could be delayed, with both sides leveling the type of complaints seen during the 2020 presidential election.

According to The Washington Post, the company and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which represents the 5,800 Amazon workers at the warehouse, could challenge the results with the National Labor Relations Board or before a court.

Challenges could include things like whether a ballot was properly signed or if it’s real.
