Two men charged in alleged attempt to scam elderly couple in Bethel Park

Noel I. Medrano-Abreu, 29, and Wilson Antonio Burgos Hernandez, 23, were both arraigned early Monday morning.

Bethel Park police said the pair called an elderly couple pretending to be a public defender and claimed their son was in a car crash and now under arrest.

The pair allegedly told the couple their son was on special bond which they needed to pay immediately and asked them not to contact him.

Police said the couple recognized the scam, called their son to confirm he was OK and then called police.

Officers stepped in and set up a sting, leading to the arrest.

Police said Burgos Hernandez already had nearly $6,000 in cash on him which they believe to be part of another scam.

The suspects have a court date later this month.
