Shu Ming Tang died of a single gunshot wound during an alleged daylight robbery in 1993. His killer’s trail went cold for the next three decades.A San Carlos murder that stumped investigators for nearly 30 years has finally been solved, with California authorities announcing Thursday the recent arrest of a 61-year-woman in Oklahoma. Rayna Hoffman-Ramos, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, is suspected of fatally shooting a corner store owner in April 1993, in what is believed to have been a daylight robbery gone wrong. The victim, Shu Ming Tang, was hospitalized with a single gunshot wound and later died. Despite learning that a woman had been seen leaving the Devonshire Little Store shortly after the 1 p.m. shooting, the case remained unsolved for 29 years. Detectives reopened the case in 2018. “We owe it to the families and victims, however long it takes, to give some measure of justice,” said San Mateo County Sheriff’s Lt. Jacob Trickett. Hoffman-Ramos, who had a criminal record prior to her arrest, is believed to have acted alone. As of Thursday, she was charged with first-degree murder and awaiting extradition to California

A 15-year-old boy waiting to go home after school Wednesday died after at least one person opened fire on the school van he was sitting in outside his school on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Two suspects, at least one of whom had a handgun, remained at large hours after the shooting outside Oliver Citywide Academy in Marshall-Shadeland. Pittsburgh police investigators confirmed shortly before 5:30 p.m. that the child had died. Authorities did not identify the teen.

“As a former principal, I know just the possibility of an incident like today is what keeps us up at night,” said interim Superintendent Wayne Walters.

The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m., said Cmdr. Richard Ford. He said the teen was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition where he later died.

Oliver Citywide is a special education center for students in grades 3 through 12, according to the district website.

The school remained under lockdown until shortly after 3 p.m. Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said the family of the student had been notified of the shooting, and a notification was sent to parents of other Oliver students.

Walters said the boy had been a student at Oliver Citywide since he was in third grade, and teachers at the school are inconsolable.

“He loved school, and he was so happy today to be back after the long weekend and school covid closure,” Walters said a teacher relayed. “His sense of humor was infectious.”
