PITTSBURGH — A woman was hit by a motorcycle that went off the road and onto a sidewalk in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood Monday evening.
Police said the driver of the motorcycle was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on Fifth Avenue near South Aiken Avenue before the crash, which happened just after 6 p.m.
Officers had activated their lights and sirens to pull the motorcyclist over, but before they could even pursue or follow the bike, it jumped up onto the sidewalk and hit the woman as she was walking.
The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. Two people who were in the area and have medical training helped her until paramedics arrived.The man who was driving the motorcycle was taken to a hospital with jaw injuries, police said.
