Pittsburgh closes Charles Anderson Bridge in Oakland to vehicles after inspection shows it needs repairs – Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Almost exactly one year after the Fern Hollow Bridge’s stunning collapse, yet another of Pittsburgh’s crumbling overpasses had to be shut down to vehicle traffic on Wednesday as city officials scrambled to avert the catastrophic failure of a key piece of public infrastructure.
The Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge, an 85-year-old span that carries the heavily traveled Boulevard of the Allies over a ravine in Oakland, needs immediate repairs before it can safely carry vehicles again, Mayor Ed Gainey said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
Repairs will take at least four months, according to the city’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, forcing the estimated 21,200 cars, trucks and buses that use the bridge every day to find another way across or around Panther Hollow, the steep valley crossed by the bridge. The bridge remains open to pedestrians and cyclists, as does the Junction Hollow Trail below.

Baldwin and “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were both charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with their alleged roles in the 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced.
“Rust” assistant director David Halls was also charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon and has already agreed to plead no contest, according to Carmack-Altwies.
Prosecutors have evidence showing that Baldwin “was not present for required firearms training prior to the commencement of filming,” special investigator Robert Shilling wrote in a probable cause statement.

Vehicle crashes into gas pump in East Pittsburgh
It happened at the Sunoco along Lincoln Highway.
One of the convenience store’s employees tells Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 she saw a car coming down Lincoln Highway and thought it looked a little close toward the gas pumps, and the next thing she knew: it slammed into one.
“It was around 1:45 a.m., I turned to look out the window (and) they crashed into the pump, so I called 911,” said Savannah Vazquez, who talked with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 after clocking out of her last 7-Eleven shift ever on Monday morning. “She bounced off the pump and ended up with her back to the store, looking like she was going to pull out into traffic. The one girl was wedged into the backseat.”
Vazquez said she helped carry one person inside the store, then came back out to try and pry open the car’s backdoor to get to a girl pinned in.
“Me and three other guys got cut up from the metal trying to open up the door,” she said. “We got it (open) enough to see her face, talk to her to be able to calm her down a little bit.”
State police said the driver lost control of the 2016 Kia Soul along the roadway before spinning out into the gas station pump, striking it on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Charges filed in deadly Ross Township hit-and-run
A woman is now facing charges after a hit-and-run in Ross Township earlier this month that left a woman dead.
Elizabeth Griser, 32, was struck along Babcock Boulevard near the Sheetz on Jan. 13. She later died at the hospital.
Ross police said Erin Petroski, 39, was awaiting arraignment on charges that include homicide by vehicle while DUI and involuntary manslaughter after turning herself in at the Allegheny County Jail on Monday.
Deputy chief Brian Kohlhepp said surveillance and traffic cameras helped police identify a vehicle and get a license plate.
“Officers were able to respond to the area, see fresh damage on the car. They were able to speak with Ms. Petroski,” Kohlhepp said. “At that point, she had been taken, and a blood draw was done to determine if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash, and then our investigation continued to gather more surveillance video as well as other evidence that we would need to prepare to come to trial.”

Drones attack military plant in Iran, Tehran says | CNN
Drones attacked a military plant in Iran’s central city of Isfahan, Tehran said on Sunday.
“An explosion has occurred in one of the military centers affiliated to the Ministry of Defense,” the deputy head of security for Isfahan governorate Mohammad Reza Jan-Nesari told the semi-official Fars News Agency.
Jan-Nesari said the explosion left some damage, “but fortunately there were no casualties.”
The state news agency IRNA later said the explosion had been caused by “small drones.”
“There was an unsuccessful attack by small drones against a defense ministry industrial complex and fortunately with predictions and air defense arrangements already in place, one of them (struck),” IRNA said in a post on Twitter, citing the country’s defense ministry.
“The air defense system of the complex was able to destroy two other drones. Fortunately, this unsuccessful attack killed no one and minor damage was sustained to the roof of the complex.”
The ministry said the attack took place at 10:30 p.m. local time.
The plant is about 440 kilometers (270 miles) south of Tehran.
In the past few years, several explosions and suspicious fires have occurred around Iranian military and nuclear facilities.

Bear goes selfie-crazy by snapping 400 pictures on Colorado wildlife camera
A motion-activated camera near Boulder contained a surprise for officials monitoring wildlife activity
Selfie mania in wild beauty spots is definitely a thing – but this camera hog had no real idea what she was doing.
When a curious bear stumbled upon a wildlife motion-activated camera near Boulder, Colorado, she ended up triggering hundreds of “selfies”, officials have said.
Coyotes, beavers, mountain lions, black bears, all kinds of birds and many other creatures inhabit the landscape outside town, and Boulder’s open space and mountain parks department – which states its function as preserving and protecting the natural environment and land resources – set out to monitor them.
But they were amazed when they checked one camera out of many they have placed across thousands of acres and found that out of 580 images on it about 400 were of one bear, NBC News reported.

Shooting in Baltimore kills 1 and wounds 2 others | CNN
At least one person was killed and two wounded in a shooting in Baltimore on Saturday, police said.
Authorities responded near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Laurens Ave. after 6 p.m. Saturday evening and found two adult males and one adult female shot, according to Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison.
Police believe a gunman or multiple gunmen opened fire but do not know if the intended targets were people in a vehicle or individuals who were on the sidewalk.
One of the adult males, a 43-year-old driver, was pronounced dead at an area hospital, according to Baltimore police. The adult female, 23, and the other adult male, 65, are listed in stable condition.
Two male children, ages two months and three years, were also injured in a car accident that resulted from the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department said in an updated news release on Sunday. Harrison had initially said a two-year-old child was among the shooting victims, but that was incorrect.
“After medical treatment, doctors determined that the children did not sustain gunshot wound injuries. Both victims sustained head trauma and lacerations, as a result of the vehicle collision that occurred when the driver was shot,” the release said.
The 3-year-old is in stable condition and the 2-month-old is listed in “critical, but stable condition,” police said.
Police have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects in the shooting.
At a news conference Saturday night, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott gave an impassioned plea to community members to come forward with any information.

Community in shock as Greensburg police chief’s apparent double life is exposed
Shawn Denning got a tip Aug. 10 and the next day staked out Spring Avenue in Greensburg, eyes peeled for a blue Chevrolet Colorado. The driver had a few bundles of heroin, according to the criminal complaint Denning would file Jan. 5 after the suspect apparently decided not to cooperate with authorities on future narcotics investigations.
About three weeks later, the tables would turn.
Armed, in part, with information from an informant, federal investigators would be the ones filing the drug-related charges last week against the now ex-police chief in the Westmoreland County community of 15,000.
