MCDONALD’S SHOOTING: Police identify woman accused of firing shots at McDonald’s after she was told dining room was closed

Oklahoma City police identified a woman accused of firing shots inside a McDonald’s restaurant after being told by employees that the dining room was closed due to coronavirus restrictions.

According to police, officers responded just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a shooting at McDonald’s near Southwest 89th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

According to police, the suspect entered the restaurant and was told by employees the dining area was closed. She was asked to leave but refused, and police said a physical altercation ensued between the suspect and an employee.

Police said the suspect was then forced out of the restaurant by employees. She reentered the restaurant with a handgun and fired about three rounds in the restaurant, according to police.

A bus driver told a rider to wear a mask. Then the passenger spit on her. – CNN

Washington, DC (CNN)Miami-Dade County bus driver Miakeya Rolle says she hasn’t had a good night’s rest since a passenger intentionally spit on her.

On the afternoon of April 19, a homeless woman boarded Rolle’s bus and began coughing on passengers, according to a police report. Rolle told her she needed to wear a mask. The woman spat on Rolle and fled the bus.
Miami, like many transit systems, requires passengers to wear masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rolle cleaned herself off with Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer as she waited for police to respond. She was later tested at a hospital. When she returned home, she undressed outside and threw her uniform in the garbage.
Rolle has yet to return to driving a bus.

Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival canceled | TribLIVE.com

The Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival, scheduled for July 2-5 in Twin Lakes Park, has been canceled.

“It was a difficult decision for the board to make, and we waited as long as we possible could,” said Executive Director Diane Shrader. “But public safety has to come first, and there are still so many unknowns.”

A major factor in the decision was concern for the vendors.

“Our vendors come from as far as California and Florida,” Shrader said. “Would they be able to travel? Could they find hotel rooms? Could we provide for their safety?”

The festival will go on in virtual form, Shrader said. Links to vendor and band websites will be available on the festival website.

Wolf extends stay-at-home order for ‘red’ counties to June 4; more move to ‘yellow’ Friday | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday extended the stay-at-home order to June 4 for all counties in the red phase of Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 reopening plan.

The stay-at-home order was originally set to expire on Friday. The governor’s office on Friday will announce additional counties moving to the yellow phase “at a to-be-determined date.”

All of southwestern Pennsylvania is currently in the red phase.

“[The] extension of the original order does not preclude counties moving into the yellow phase earlier than June 4,” Mark Nicastre, communications director for Mr. Wolf, said. “The extension of the overall order was necessary because it was expiring tonight.”

Allegheny County spokesperson Amie Downs said the county would wait until the governor announced the new yellow regions before making a comment on the stay-at-home extension.

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald recently expressed optimism about the county’s numbers, and hoped the county would open soon.

“It is our understanding that Gov. Wolf will be making an announcement on May 8, and we’re certainly hopeful that the southwest region does go from red to yellow,” Mr. Fitzgerald said this week.

The county has averaged 22 new cases per 100,000 people over the last 14 days, under the state’s target of 50 new cases.

Authorities: Father, son charged with murder of black man killed while jogging in Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) – A white father and son accused of fatally shooting a black man on a residential Georgia street were arrested Thursday and charged with murder and aggravated assault after a national outcry that no arrests had been made, authorities said.

Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis McMichael, 34, will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.

Ahmaud Arbery was killed Feb. 23 just outside the port city of Brunswick. The men who pursued him in a pickup truck told police they believed Arbery was a burglar.

The GBI opened an investigation this week after the video was posted online by a Brunswick radio station. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp told reporters that he’s confident the agency will “find the truth.”

Black and Pakistani people more likely to die from COVID-19: UK data – Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) – Black people and those of Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnicity have a significantly higher chance of dying from COVID-19 than white people, even when adjusting for deprivation, the British statistics office said on Thursday.

Using models that adjusted for a range of socio-economic factors, the statistics office said it was clear that there were significant differences in the risk of COVID-19 among different ethnic groups.

“The risk of death involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) among some ethnic groups is significantly higher than that of those of white ethnicity,” the Office for National Statistics said.

“People of Bangladeshi and Pakistani, Indian, and Mixed ethnicities also had statistically significant raised risk of death involving COVID-19 compared with those of white ethnicity.”

Scientists studying the novel coronavirus caution that there were vast holes in their knowledge and cite striking differences in the death rates based on age, sex and ethnicity.

Mystery swirls after toilet flush heard on Supreme Court conference call

Someone’s caseload just got a lot lighter …

A US Supreme Court argument showed Wednesday that it’s not just office workers who sometimes have difficulty finding the “mute” button during a conference call.

In the middle of oral arguments in Barr v. American Association of Political Consultants, an unexpected sound projected clearly across the court’s live audio stream: Someone flushed a toilet.

The stunning display of doo process came as attorney Roman Martinez told justices — over the phone due to the coronavirus pandemic — that the right to robocall is protected by the First Amendment.

Martinez was mid-sentence during a highly technical part of his delivery.

“I think we’re going to be saying, ‘Hey, call your congressman and change these laws that apply to banks’ and what the FCC has said is that when the subject matter of the call ranges to the topics, then the call is transformed and it’s a call that would have been allowed and is no longer allowed,” he said.

It was unclear which other lines were unmuted, and nobody on the line acknowledged the noise.

TV Q&A: Why are some daytime soaps in reruns? | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Q: Why is the daytime serial “General Hospital” now showing repeats on Fridays, calling them “Friday Flashbacks”? Are they rationing episodes due to the pandemic until they are able to shoot on a regular basis again or is it something else entirely?

-JOE VIA EMAIL

Rob: Soaps record their episodes months in advance, but even some of them have exhausted their pre-taped inventory during the COVID-19 pandemic with the ABC show expected to run out of original episodes by the end of May.

So, yes, the Friday reruns of “General Hospital” are an effort to stretch out new episodes longer. TheWrap.com reports “GH” is also adding flashbacks to new episodes in another effort to stretch out the run of original episodes.CBS soaps “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” went into reruns on April 25 and are now airing theme weeks of reruns. This week “Y&R” features episodes dating back to 1981 for “Victor and Nikki: A Lifetime of Love,” while “B&B” reaches back to 1991 for its “Epic Weddings Week.”NBC’s “Days of our Lives” is in better shape with enough original episodes stockpiled to see the show through to October.

Western Pa. State Rep compares Gov. Wolf’s office to Nazis; Pittsburgh’s Jewish Rep condemns | News | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper

PA State Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson) criticized the transparency of Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to re-open Pennsylvania during the coronavirus pandemic. While many Republicans have criticized Wolf over his plan, Dush took it a step further and said the governor has “refused all sorts of information” and compared that to the governments of Nazi Germany and the former U.S.S.R.

“More and more I go back to the German Democratic Nationalist Socialist Party, the Nazi party. I go to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the USSR,” Dush said. “This is a socialist playbook.”

Giant Eagle Begins Limiting Meat Purchases | Pittsburgh, PA Patch

PITTSBURGH, PA – Giant Eagle is temporarily limiting ground meat and advertised meat product purchases due to increased customer demand for those items.

“In recent days, our supermarkets have experienced increased guest demand for products in our meat department,” the supermarket chain stated in a release. “To discourage bulk purchasing and ensure that we have product available for as many guests as possible, we are temporarily limiting the number of ground beef and advertised meat products guests can purchase at once. In a single transaction, guests are able to purchase two packages of ground beef and up to two of each meat item advertised in our weekly circular.”

Major meat producers such as Smithfield Foods, Tyson Foods and Cargill had to close plants in April after workers contracted the coronavirus. But Giant Eagle says it works with several different suppliers to provide customers with a wide variety of meat options and maintains consistent product availability.
