Web design tips to keep users coming back – The Pittsburgh 100

The design of your website – down to the font, color and image quality on each page – can make or break your business.

When it comes to font choice, go with a “sans serif” font like Open Sans or Roboto. These are more readable and preferred by users. To keep users on your site longer, consider introducing a chat box feature to allow visitors to ask questions and learn more about services or products.

Finally, make sure your website graphics are clear. This is so important; you should partner with a professional a few times a year to ensure production quality.

Gutfeld on the expanding Hunter Biden investigation | Fox News

The probe into Hunter Biden’s questionable income practices is expanding, targeting his Ukrainian dealings, China and potential money laundering. Fox News has obtained emails in which Hunter asked that keys be made for his new “office mates,” for a space shared with a Chinese energy firm’s emissary.

Who were those “officemates”? His dad, Joe Biden, his fun Uncle Jim, and Dr. Jill Biden (it’s good to have a medical professional on staff.)

So this stinks like a day-old diaper in a Red Lobster dumpster. And it makes you wonder how much longer the pathetic mainstream media will pretend there’s nothin’ to see here.

CNN’S ‘STATE OF THE UNION’ IS ONLY SUNDAY MORNING NEWS SHOW TO SKIP COVERAGE OF HUNTER BIDEN

Now Hunter’s left holding the bag, wondering if jail gets Seamless food deliveries

No wonder President Obama asked Joe: Are you sure you wanna do this?

But sadly, China now has Joe over a barrel that’s filled with a lot of dirt.

And what a relief for Xi Jinping after four years of dealing with Trump, who had China’s number and fought on our behalf, instead of chasing popularity.

No wonder China can’t wait for the inauguration. Neither can Joe.

I mean a lot could happen in six weeks!

Congress warms to possible Covid stimulus deal

A bipartisan group of senators finally hit paydirt in its long-running coronavirus relief negotiations. And it may provide a pathway to a deal that has eluded Congress for months.

Roughly a dozen centrist senators presented their much-anticipated product on Monday afternoon in two pieces: A $748 billion package boosting education, vaccine, transportation and other funding, and a more controversial $160 billion add-on of state and local funding married with a short-term liability shield for employers.

UPMC administers 1st covid-19 vaccines in Pittsburgh | TribLIVE.com

Five UPMC employees received Pittsburgh’s first doses of the covid-19 vaccine Monday, making tangible the long-awaited light at the end of the tunnel for a pandemic that has spared no state in its deadly waves.

The employees — a doctor, two nurses, a transporter and an environmental services supervisor — received the vaccine in a live-streamed event, getting the first of two doses for thousands to see.

Dr. Sylvia Owusu-Ansah, 42, an emergency medicine physician and assistant director of Pittsburgh’s EMS, said she wanted to do this to set an example. She noted the African-American community has been particularly ravaged by the virus.

“I wanted to share with my community that it is OK — that this vaccine is the thing to do to keep us safe, to keep us healthy and to keep us alive,” she said.

She said she wants to protect her family — her two young daughters, her husband, her parents in Boston — along with the community.

“I wanted to set that example not only for my family but for my community as well,” she said.

Biggest snowstorm in years targets Northeast – CBS News

It has been nearly five years since New York City has seen more than a foot of snow in one storm, when Central Park recorded its biggest snowstorm on record with 27.5 inches in January 2016. That streak may come to an end by the middle of this week, with the New York metro area in — or near — the bullseye for more than a foot of snow.

And it won’t be just New York. Much of the densely populated parts of the Northeast stand to see a walloping of heavy snow as a major nor’easter takes aim. Some cities may pick up more than a half a season’s worth of snow in 24 hours.

For cities like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York, a major nor’easter seems long overdue. That’s because many of these cities saw historically low amounts of snow last winter. The Big Apple only measured 4.8 inches last season — its fourth least snowiest season on record. The least amount of snow ever recorded in New York City came in the 1972-73 season, when the city saw only 2.8 inches.

For perspective, in a normal year, Central Park tallies around 25 inches of snow, and the snowiest season of 1995-96 delivered a whopping 75.6 inches.

Attorney General William Barr resigns – CNNPolitics

(CNN)Attorney General William Barr on Monday said he would resign next week, ending a tenure in which the President Donald Trump loyalist carried the administration’s “law and order” message but ultimately dealt the most credible blow to Trump’s unfounded claims that the 2020 election was littered with fraud.

His departure was announced by the President on Twitter moments after counting in the Electoral College put President-elect Joe Biden over the 270 votes needed to formally secure the presidency.
Despite escalating tensions between Trump and Barr that had burst recently into public view, the President framed Barr’s departure as amicable.
“Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family,” Trump tweeted, announcing the news.
“Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen, an outstanding person, will become Acting Attorney General. Highly respected Richard Donoghue will be taking over the duties of Deputy Attorney General. Thank you to all!”

Gov. Wolf, health officials want Pennsylvanians to stay home for the holidays | TribLIVE.com

Dr. Carol Fox is worried about the holidays.

She watches the rising coronavirus caseload in Westmoreland County and keeps daily tabs on the numbers that are impacting Excela Health, where she is chief medical officer. As the toll from family visits over Thanksgiving becomes more clear, she said she is expecting Christmas to be “Thanksgiving on steroids.”

“It’s just important that we stand our ground and remain at home,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dave Peach is encouraging people to visit their families for Christmas through a sign in front of Peaches ’N Cream, his Hempfield ice cream stand on Route 30 — despite state and federal health officials recommending the opposite.

Pitt Student And Son Of Restaurant Owner Creates ‘Bar Spy’ App To Help Struggling Businesses During Pandemic – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the restaurant industry, a student at Pitt is looking to help them out. He created an app called Bar Spy to help get people to patronize a business.

Computer information science major Gabriel Thrower is trying to give restaurants a fighting chance during another round of COVID-19 restrictions.

“If you were to start a restaurant within the past five years, this whole coronavirus thing would probably put you under,” Thrower said.

He’s seen his father’s restaurant get hit hard in the last 9 months.

“It’s just crazy the amount of business that isn’t happening now,” the Pitt senior said.

He had been thinking about it when he lived in the city.

“I thought to myself it would be great if there was a platform where all these people could advertise on it and let people know what they’re doing,” he said.

Then once the pandemic began, the Pitt Senior knew it was time.

After six months of work, the app was published this week.

Former Aide Claims Gov. Andrew Cuomo Sexually Harassed Her For Years

New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo was accused by a former aide on Sunday morning of sexual harassment. Lindsey Boylan, who ran against Rep. Jerry Nadler in this year’s primary in New York’s 10th congressional district, was deputy secretary for economic development and a special advisor to the governor from 2015-2018.

Boylan offered few specifics in her allegation, but she appears to be alleging serious misconduct. Boylan is currently running for Manhattan Borough president.

The claim comes as  Cuomo is mired in controversy over his decision to close indoor dining in New York City even though his own data show restaurants account for only 1.4 percent of the spread of the virus. According to the Associated Press, he was also added this week to Joe Biden’s short list for the position of attorney general of the United States.

Chinese capsule with moon rocks begins return to Earth

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese space capsule bringing back the first moon rocks in more than four decades started its three-day return to Earth on Sunday.

The Chang’e 5 lunar probe, which had been orbiting the moon for about a week, fired up four engines for about 22 minutes to move out of the moon’s orbit, the China National Space Administration said in a social media post.

The craft’s lander touched down on the moon earlier this month close to a formation called the Mons Rumker, an area believed to have been the site of ancient volcanic activity. It collected about 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of samples.

The return capsule is expected to land in northern China in the Inner Mongolia region after separating from the rest of the spacecraft and floating down on parachutes. The material would be the first brought back since the Soviet Union’s Luna 24 probe in 1976.The rocks and other debris were obtained both by drilling into the moon’s crust and scooping directly off the surface. They may be billions of years younger than those brought back by earlier U.S. and Soviet missions, possibly offering insights into the moon’s history and that of other bodies in the solar system.China has set up labs to analyze the samples for age and composition and is also expected to share some of them with other countries, as was done with the hundreds of kilograms (pounds) brought back by the U.S. and former Soviet Union.China’s space program has a series of ambitious missions underway, including a probe en route to Mars. The Chang’e lunar program, named after the ancient Chinese moon goddess, has been operating the Chang’e 4 probe on the moon’s less explored far side for the past two years.Future plans call for returning a human to the moon and perhaps a permanent moon base. China is also building a space station to begin operating as early as 2022.

The wagontrain of COVID-19 vaccine shipments begin in historic US effort

KALAMAZOO, Michigan (AP) — The first shipments of a COVID-19 vaccine for widespread use in the United States headed Sunday from Michigan to distribution centers across the country, with the first shots expected to be given in the coming week to health care workers and at nursing homes.

Shipments of the Pfizer vaccine will set in motion the biggest vaccination effort in American history at a critical juncture of the pandemic that has killed 1.6 million and sickened 71 million worldwide.

Initially, about 3 million doses were expected to be sent out, and the priority is health care workers and nursing home residents as infections, hospitalizations and deaths soar in the U.S. With numbers likely to get worse over the holidays, the vaccine is offering a bright spot in the fight against the pandemic that’s killed nearly 300,000 Americans.

Gov. Wolf twice tests negative for covid | TribLIVE.com

Gov. Tom Wolf said Friday he tested negative for covid-19 for the second time since he received his diagnosis on Wednesday.

Wolf said he’s tested for the virus each Tuesday, and he tested positive during the routine test this week. Subsequent tests on Wednesday and Thursday evenings came back negative, he said.

The Department of Health’s state epidemiologist Dr. Sharon Watkins said the governor received a real-time PCR test, which she said “are considered the gold standard among tests for covid-19.”

She said the tests are very specific and sensitive and detect even small amounts of the virus. The fact that his positive test was followed by two negative tests could mean the governor “was at the end of his infectious period when the first test was conducted.”

Trump march brings thousands to DC ahead of Electoral College vote

WASHINGTON – A growing crowd waving American flags and wearing “Make America Great Again” hats gathered Saturday morning in Freedom Plaza in support of President Donald Trump and his unfounded allegations of voter fraud in the presidential election.

The rally was organized by Women for America First, a conservative group that organized last month’s “Stop the Steal” rally, which drew tens of thousands of people.

As many as 15,000 people were expected to attend Saturday’s demonstration, according to the group’s permit. Trump tweeted Saturday morning that he was unaware of the event, “but I’ll be seeing them!”

Crowds gathered to listen to speakers before marching to the Supreme Court, which denied an effort Friday to overturn election results in battleground states and prevent them from casting their Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden on Monday.

Chants of “CNN sucks, Fox News sucks too!” “Four more years!” and “Fight for Trump!” broke out as massive speakers blared pro-Trump songs such as “Real Women Vote For Trump.”
