Pittsburgh buys energy from Ohio wind farm

Two large wind turbines.

Pittsburgh will purchase “renewable energy certificates,” also known as RECs from NRG Energy. That’s according to Mayor Ed Gainey who made the announcement at a press conference Friday afternoon on the roof of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The agreement enables the city to buy energy produced from a wind farm in Ohio, rather than just paying to offset carbon emissions.

Man shot to death in North Versailles apartment

Police were called to the scene in the 600 block of Della Drive around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

First responders found an adult male in an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another adult male was taken into custody inside the apartment.

Family members of the victim arrived on scene shortly after and burst out into tears.

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 spoke with someone who lives in the complex. He tells us the violence is not surprising anymore, because he says crimes like this are happening too often, and in too many places.

“It doesn’t shock me,” said Carl Patilla. “That’s the way that it is, the way of the world. So you just get a little numb.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
