Yellow vest protests: More than 100 arrested as violence returns to Paris – BBC News

Rioters clash with police, unleashing some of the worst violence Paris has seen in months.

With many clad in black and wearing masks to hide their faces, rioters in parts of the city burned barricades, vandalised banks, set rubbish bins on fire and hurled cobblestones at police.

By Saturday evening, Paris police said 147 people had been arrested across the capital.

The nationwide protests were intended to send a message to French President Emmanuel Macron, whose government has been accused of ignoring the needs of ordinary citizens.

A doorbell camera captured a woman screaming for help from a passing car. Police want to find her – CNN

(CNN)A Los Angeles doorbell camera captured the gut-wrenching screams of a woman police say they believe may have been kidnapped, but it did not capture images of what caused her calls for help.

Witnesses in the Leimert Park neighborhood called Los Angeles police Tuesday to report hearing a woman screaming, according to an LAPD news release.
“Help me,” a woman’s voice can be heard screaming in the footage, which shows only a dark street from a porch. “Somebody help me, please.”
A car then races into and out of the frame.

Man Runs From Cops, Throws Weed Into The Woods – CBS Pittsburgh

PENN HILLS (KDKA) — A 27-year-old man was arrested yesterday after fleeing police and attempting to throw away a bag of marijuana.

Penn Hills Police originally tried to stop Davaughn Jones for not using his turn signal while turning into the Penn Hills Shopping Center from Rodi Road.

The report from an officer states that he was in a marked police car and uniform during the incident and that the Jones was looking at him through the rear view mirror. Another patrol car also pursued Jones after he sped away from the first officer on Universal Road.

Jones then got out of his car on Collins Drive and ran from the Penn Hill officers, which was when he threw a “large bag” of marijuana in a wooded creek bed.

The officers were able to catch up with Jones and arrested him. They found then that Jones had a small bag of cocaine in his possession.

Jones had a warrant for a probation violation for robbery.

Schiphol airport: False alarm causes Amsterdam security alert – BBC News

An accidental alert about a hijacking causes disruption at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

A false report of an airline hijacking sparked a large police response on board a plane at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport on Wednesday evening.

Dutch police tweeted at about 19:30 (18:30 GMT) that they were investigating a “suspicious situation”.

Part of the airport, which is one of Europe’s busiest, was closed to passengers as officials investigated.

But after people were evacuated from the plane, Air Europa announced a pilot had accidentally set off an alert.

“False alarm. In the flight Amsterdam-Madrid this afternoon was activated, by mistake, a warning that triggers protocols on hijackings at the airport,” the airline tweeted.

“Nothing has happened, all passengers are safe and sound waiting to fly soon. We deeply apologize.”

Shortly before their announcement, Dutch military police confirmed all passengers and staff had been safely evacuated from the Madrid-bound flight.

Images posted on social media showed parts of the airport’s D-pier cordoned off to the public, with passengers waiting around for information.

Penn Hills man found shot to death inside ransacked home

A Penn Hills man was found shot to death inside his home Wednesday evening after a report of a home invasion, police said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner as 35-year-old Aaron Evans, was found dead when police responded to the 7200 block of Lawton Street a little after 6:15 p.m.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened inside the home, but we know he was forced back inside the home. At some point, he was shot,” county police Inspector Andrew Schurman said.

The house had been ransacked, and police said robbery appears to be a motive for the shooting.

“That’s something we’re trying to determine more definitively — what the motive was, and why he was selected,” Schurman said. “At this point, we have no reason to think he was randomly selected. There was something in his life that caused these men to show up and ransack his home.”

No suspects have been identified. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call county police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Anonymous calls will be accepted.
