Biden scores big union wins on train trek through Western Pennsylvania | TribLIVE.com

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood Wednesday for former Vice President Joe Biden as he ventured deep into what was the heart of Trump country in Westmoreland County in 2016 to pick up endorsements from two unions that represent 950,000 working people.

Fresh from the spectacle of Tuesday night’s presidential debate in Cleveland and a morning whistle-stop where he greeted supporters at a train station in Alliance, Ohio, Biden and his wife, Jill, headed for friendly territory in Pittsburgh.

There he greeted a small crowd of supporters at a closed event, before continuing on to Greensburg by train, where a crowd of supporters lined the streets to greet him. After that, he headed for a motorcade to a union training center in New Alexandria where he would pick up union endorsements.

He ended the evening in a closed meeting at DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant at the Latrobe train station with a handful of invited supporters. The disappointed crowd outside that had hoped to get a glimpse of the Democratic candidate sang “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?,” the theme song of Latrobe-native Fred Rogers’ children’s television show, while a group of Trump supporters chanted “Go home Joe.”

Minneapolis police investigating alleged ballot harvesting scheme by Omar associates | Fox News

The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating claims by right-wing activist group Project Veritas that individuals tied to Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., engaged in illegal ballot harvesting before the election.

“We are in the process of looking into the validity of those statements,” a department statement read on Monday. “No further information is available at this time on this.”

Project Veritas’ latest video lit up social media as it came just weeks before a presidential election that is expected to see a surge in absentee or mail-in voting. In Minnesota, the issue has come under judicial scrutiny as Republicans and Democrats battled over a measure that would limit the number of ballots a third party could hold for others.

Newt Gingrich: How the Bidens worked with China to get rich — at America’s expense | Fox News

Joe Biden wants us to believe he’s so close to his son.

When then-Vice President Joe Biden took an official trip to China in 2013, he brought along his son, Hunter Biden. Ten days after the trip, Hunter’s small investment firm partnered with the state-owned Bank of China to establish Bohai Harvest RST (BHR), a private equity fund. The new company ended up raking in some $1.5 billion from the deal.

Curiously, Hunter had no background in private equity and no relevant expertise. Moreover, Hunter had no serious experience in China. We now know from newly released travel records that Hunter traveled to China five times between 2009 and 2014, but that’s it.

Hunter did have one important qualification, though: He was the son of a sitting vice president. Even more striking, then-President Obama had effectively made Biden the administration’s point man for dealing with China. It would be willful blindness to ignore this fact.

Yom Kippur to Begin at Sundown Amid Restrictions and Alterations – NBC Los Angeles

Yom Kippur begins at sundown, with services marking the holiest and most somber day on the Jewish calendar altered because of the coronavirus pandemic. With indoor religious services in Los Angeles County prohibited under public health orders, synagogues and other Jewish organizations will hold services outdoors and online, just like for Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, Sept. 18-20. “This Yom Kippur will be different from past ones as we miss being able to gather with family, friends and community members in our indoor sanctuaries, singing together and greeting friends with hugs,” said Rabbi Ilana Grinblat, the vice president of community engagement for the Southern California Board of Rabbis.

Have questions about the election? Target 11 gets answers from woman in charge of elections in Pa. – WPXI

WPXI’s RIck Earle began a one-on-one interview by asking Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar if she feels an added pressure because of the importance Pennsylvania will likely play in deciding the Presidency?

“It’s a critical state for either candidate. Do you feel added pressure?” Earle asked.

“I don’t have a low stress job, but I have the best team in the world,” Boockvar said. “They are working around the clock to make sure every Pennsylvanian gets to vote in a safe secure and accessible election.”

Boockvar is gearing up for the Nov. 3 general election and for an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots because of health concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We had almost 1.5 million ballots cast by mail in the primary, and a little over I think over 1.3 million in person. So that was the first time ever that more voters chose to vote by mail than in person, which is great. Allegheny County was one of the top, I think the top county in the state in terms of mail-ins, so we might see 3 million Pennsylvanians take advantage of it in the general election,” Boockvar said.

Romney backs vote on Supreme Court nominee, clearing way for Trump – POLITICO

The announcement means Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has enough votes to move forward with Trump’s pick.

The move is a striking blow to Democrats’ hopes of keeping the seat vacant for the next president, potentially Joe Biden. But Romney said he had no qualms about Democrats’ charges of hypocrisy or about strengthening the high court’s conservative majority.

Given his criticisms of Trump and vote to remove him from office earlier this year, there was some question about where Romney would come down on a Supreme Court nominee. And though Romney’s position doesn’t mean Trump’s yet-to-be-named nominee will definitely have the votes to be confirmed, it does mean that McConnell and Trump can move forward without delay.

Bill Gates’ Global Agenda and How We Can Resist His War on Life | Common Dreams Views

Gates’ ‘funding’ results in an erasure of democracy and biodiversity, of nature and culture. His ‘philanthropy’ is not just philanthrocapitalism. It is philanthroimperialism…

In March 2015, Bill Gates showed an image of the coronavirus during a TED Talk and told the audience that it was what the greatest catastrophe of our time would look like. The real threat to life, he said, is ‘not missiles, but microbes.’ When the coronavirus pandemic swept over the earth like a tsunami five years later, he revived the war language, describing the pandemic as ‘a world war’.

‘The coronavirus pandemic pits all of humanity against the virus,’ he said.

In fact, the pandemic is not a war. The pandemic is a consequence of war. A war against life. The mechanical mind connected to the money machine of extraction has created the illusion of humans as separate from nature, and nature as dead, inert raw material to be exploited. But, in fact, we are part of the biome. And we are part of the virome. The biome and the virome are us. When we wage war on the biodiversity of our forests, our farms, and in our guts, we wage war on ourselves.

AOC-backed socialists have a plan to take over New York City

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Democratic socialists brigade wants to turn New York City far-left — from the ground up. The Democratic Socialists of America-NYC is pushing to put up or shut up.

The Democratic Socialists of America-NYC is pushing to put up or back a slate of City Council candidates who, if elected, would create a “socialist caucus.”

The overwhelmingly Democratic council is vulnerable next year to the left-of-left push with 35 out of 51 council seats up for grabs due to term limits. Only 16 council members can run for re-election.

The strategy is detailed in a 13-page “tasks and perspectives” strategic planning document that will be reviewed by DSA members this week.

A litmus test for candidates to obtain the DSA endorsement is a pledge to “defund” the NYPD — slashing the police budget by $3 billion or 50 percent.

Recall Alert: Almost 600,000 Hyundai and Kia Models Are a Fire Hazard

Fire hazards are not great! Unfortunately, almost 600,000 Kia and Hyundai owners are going to have to deal with a recall hassle now.

Hyundai and Kia recalled 591,000 U.S. vehicles because of a brake-fluid leak that has the potential to cause engine fires. Included in the recall are the 2013 to 2015 models of the Kia Optima sedan and Hyundai’s Santa Fe SUV. Also recalled were the 2014 to 2015 models of Kia Sorento SUVs.

According to Car and Driver, there have been 15 reported engine fires in Hyundai vehicles and eight in Kia vehicles because of the issue. Fortunately, there have been no injuries or accidents.

The issue has both Hyundai and Kia recommending that owners of the affected vehicles park them outside, away from buildings, structures, and other vehicles until they can be repaired. Earlier this month, a spokesperson for Kia told Car and Driver that they weren’t aware of any incidents of fire while the vehicles were parked and off.

Gunman opens fire inside Pennsylvania mall, no injuries reported | Fox News

An unidentified shooter who opened fire at a Pennsylvania shopping mall remained on the loose Sunday morning, hours after dozens of police vehicles surrounded the building and officers rushed in to assess the scene and evacuate shoppers taking shelter in various stores.

A gunman who opened fire inside a Pennsylvania shopping mall remained on the loose Sunday morning, hours after dozens of police vehicles surrounded the building and officers rushed in to evacuate frightened shoppers.

The shooting happened at Lehigh Valley Mall in Fullerton, Pa., shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.  No injuries were reported.

Four shots were fired in the lower level near a sporting goods store, Whitehall Township Police Chief Michael Marks said.

“The responding officers needed to get into the mall and make sure there was no active gunfire occurring at the moment,” Marks said Saturday night, according to WFMZ. “As far as our secondary operations right now, that’s just making sure that the mall is empty and we were able to account for everybody employed or at least at the mall at that point.”

Thais hold huge protest demanding reforms

More than 15,000 people join calls for the prime minister’s resignation and reform of the monarchy.

It was one of the biggest protests in years with at least 15,000 people, police said. “Down with feudalism, long live the people,” chanted some.

There were no reports of violence.

Since July, rallies have called for the resignation of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha who took power in a 2014 coup and won disputed elections last year.

Saturday’s student-led demonstration moved from the campus of Thammasat University to a park next to a grand palace used for royal ceremonies.

Demonstrators say they plan to stay overnight and march to the offices of the prime minister on Sunday morning.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Dead at 87, icon of women’s equality, opened doors for all

We take Ginsburg’s successes for granted now, but she was the one who brought to the Supreme Court the perspective of women’s rights.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg (/ˈbdər ˈɡɪnzbɜːrɡ/; born Joan Ruth Bader; March 15, 1933 – September 18, 2020),[1] also known by her initials RBG, was an American jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in 2020. She was nominated by President Bill Clinton and was generally viewed as belonging to the liberal wing of the Court. Ginsburg was the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, after Sandra Day O’Connor. Following O’Connor’s retirement in 2006 and until Sonia Sotomayor joined the Court in 2009, she was the only female justice on the Supreme Court. During that time, Ginsburg became more forceful with her dissents, which were noted by legal observers and in popular culture. Ginsburg authored notable majority opinions, including United States v. Virginia (1996), Olmstead v. L.C. (1999), and Friends of the Earth, Inc. v. Laidlaw Environmental Services, Inc. (2000).

Ginsburg was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Her older sister died when she was a baby, and her mother died shortly before Ginsburg graduated from high school. She then earned her bachelor’s degree at Cornell University and became a wife to Martin D. Ginsburg and mother before starting law school at Harvard, where she was one of the few women in her class. Ginsburg transferred to Columbia Law School, where she graduated tied for first in her class. Following law school, Ginsburg entered into academia. She was a professor at Rutgers Law School and Columbia Law School, teaching civil procedure as one of the few women in her field.

Ginsburg spent a considerable part of her legal career as an advocate for the advancement of gender equality and women’s rights, winning multiple arguments before the Supreme Court. She advocated as a volunteer attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union and was a member of its board of directors and one of its general counsels in the 1970s. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, where she served until her appointment to the Supreme Court. Ginsburg received attention in American popular culture for her fiery liberal dissents and refusal to step down, leading to her being dubbed “The Notorious R.B.G.”, a play on the name of rapper The Notorious B.I.G.[2]

Ginsburg died at her home in Washington, D.C., on September 18, 2020, from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer, at the age of 87.[3][4]

The Department of Defense and federal health agencies have outlined plans for a coronavirus vaccine, which include having them available for free for all Americans.

The plans came in the form of a report to Congress and a “playbook” for states and local governments, The Associated Press reported. The agencies are looking at January for a potential beginning of a vaccination campaign, although it remains possible that this could come later this year.

“We are working closely with our state and local public health partners … to ensure that Americans can receive the vaccine as soon as possible and vaccinate with confidence,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement.

Chinese Whistleblower to Tucker Carlson: Coronavirus Was Man-Made And Released Intentionally

The Chinese scientist who alleges that the coronavirus that has spread throughout the world was man-made emerged for an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. Dr. Li-Meng Yan came forward recently to allege that the coronavirus was a lab-manufactured disease that did not come from nature and that the wet market story was a “smoke screen” aimed to pivot attention away from this virus’ apparent release. Dr. Yan said that this virus was China’s Frankenstein monster. Carlson asked about China’s motives in creating this virus if it is man-made, which Dr. Yan said you’d have to ask the Chinese Communist Party.

The deals between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and Israel and Bahrain, involve the exchanging of ambassadors, establishment of embassies and co-operation on a range of fronts — including trade, security and tourism. The agreements, known as the “Abraham Accords” also allow Muslims to visit Islamic holy sites in Israel. Trump said the deals would form “the foundation for a comprehensive peace across the entire region.”

Earlier in the Oval Office, Trump said “we’re very far down the road with about five additional countries.” He declined to name the countries he is speaking with and later said it could be “five or six” other countries.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the foreign ministers of both the UAE and Bahrain were present to sign the deals at the ceremony. Trump signed onto each one as a witness. The leaders also signed a separate trilateral declaration of peace.

Start of Pennsylvania’s election is on hold because of ballot delay – CNNPolitics

CNN)In the latest sign of the chaos overshadowing the 2020 election, none of Pennsylvania’s counties will be able to send out ballots to voters Monday, the first day the critical battleground state allows counties to do so.

Due to a slew of lawsuits and other issues, the commonwealth, which has drawn intense interest from Democrats and Republicans after June’s disastrous primary, has not finalized its ballot less than eight weeks before Election Day.
