PITTSBURGH — Officers packed up and handed out meals to community members in need.
“It means a lot to us actually. It’s probably one of the best parts of our jobs,” said Commander Shawn Malloy.
St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in South Side donated more than 3,200 meals of turkey and sides.
“Any time we can help out with the community, that’s what we’re here for,” said Malloy.
Officers say they love the opportunity to get out into the neighborhoods and build positive relationships.
“The officers really love doing this part,” said Malloy. “This is what we love to do the most.”
People like Sharon Smith, who received a meal, are grateful.
“It’s very meaningful, especially for our community so that we get to see our policemen in action and that they want to help us out and be grateful that they’re around to help us,” she said.

WILKINSBURG — Allegheny County detectives spent Thursday morning investigating at a Wilkinsburg home where a man was shot and later died at the hospital.
The home is on North Avenue, near the MLK Jr. East Busway and a People’s Gas facility. Investigators said they were called to the scene around 1 a.m. A Channel 11 photographer at the scene saw several detectives inside and outside the home, as well as one person being taken away in an ambulance.
The 58-year-old man died at an area hospital, police said.
Detectives determined an argument occurred inside the residence between the victim and 52-year old George Edwin Booker, during the argument Booker shot the victim.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Booker charging him with Criminal Homicide and Persons Not To Possess a Firearm.
Booker is described as a black male, 6′00″ in height, 175 lbs. in weight. Booker is known to frequent the Homewood, Wilkinsburg and McKees Rocks areas.

CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A security guard was assaulted as a group of suspects fled with merchandise worth an estimated $25,000 during a smash-and-grab robbery at the Nordstrom store in Westfield Topanga mall Wednesday.
Multiple police cruisers, as well as fire trucks and ambulances, were seen parked outside the Nordstrom store at the popular shopping complex in Canoga Park.

A Pittsburgh police officer is on unpaid administrative leave after he was charged with rear-ending a car while intoxicated in Plum earlier this month.
The driver of the car he hit, according to police, is WPXI-TV reporter Amy Hudak.
Tariq Jamal-Francis is charged with driving under the influence, endangering the welfare of children, and moving violations in connection with the Nov. 12 incident.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. on New Texas Road near Saltsburg Road, according to the criminal complaint. Hudak told officers she’d been rear-ended and the car that struck hers fled the scene. She told police that she recognized the car as belonging to a neighbor.
Police found Jamal-Francis pulled over near Boyce Park Village, and he told officers he’d been in an accident on New Texas Road, authorities wrote, noting that his 17-year-old son was in the front passenger seat. Police said the boy said he’d been injured, but declined treatment.
An officer asked Jamal-Francis if he’d been drinking, according to the complaint, to which he responded he had been. He refused to perform a field sobriety test, according to the complaint, but he consented to having his blood drawn to determine his blood-alcohol content.
Officers said Jamal-Francis kept saying “that he did it and should not have put himself in that position and should have had his son get a ride to practice,” according to the complaint.
Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said Jamal-Francis was off-duty at the time of the crash, and he remains on unpaid leave.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19.

A woman was injured in a road rage shooting on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County on Sunday afternoon.
State police said the 38-year-old woman accidentally drifted into another lane of travel which resulted in another motorist being cut-off.
That other driver, identified by police as Andrew Skinner, 30, allegedly accelerated to the left side of the victim’s vehicle while traveling eastbound.
Police said Skinner then brandished a handgun and fired a single shot from his vehicle.
Skinner was later apprehended. State police say he’s expected to face several charges including attempted homicide.
Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 is working to get an update on the victim’s condition.

AMSTERDAM, Nov 21 (Reuters) – Riots broke out in cities across the Netherlands on Sunday, the third night in a row that police clashed with mobs of angry youths who set fires and threw rocks to protest COVID-19 restrictions.
Unrest was reported in locations including Leeuwarden and Groningen in the north, the eastern town of Enschede and Tilburg in the south. In Enschede, where an emergency ordinance was issued, police used batons to try to disperse a crowd, according to video on social media. Bay Area retailers were on alert Sunday after about 80 people rushed a Nordstrom store in Walnut Creek and stole merchandise, a day after groups of thieves ransacked San Francisco high-end retailers in Union Square. San Francisco police were investigating possible linkage between the brazen heists.
Walnut Creek police warned stores to take precautions againt the prospect of further incursions.
“Our investigators will be looking into the Walnut Creek incident to see if they are related,” San Francisco Police Department spokesman Officer Robert Rueca said Sunday afternoon.
The back-to-back thefts occurred 25 miles and two days apart, on Friday in Union Square, and Saturday night in at the department store in Walnut Creek. In both cases, dozens of people ransacked stores, scooping up armfuls of merchandise such as clothing and bags and dashing away.
More than 20 people were reported injured after an SUV plowed through a holiday parade in a Milwaukee suburb.
WAUKESHA – A treasured rite of the holiday season turned into a scene of bloody, violent mayhem late Sunday afternoon as a vehicle plowed into the Waukesha Christmas Parade, leaving more than 20 people injured, including children, and shaking the community, authorities said.
There were some fatalities but a figure was not released as authorities sought to notify families.
Eleven adults and 12 children were ferried to local hospitals.
Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly called the incident a “horrible and senseless act.”

POINT BREEZE — A woman has died and a man is in police custody after a shooting in the 100 block of Linden Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood.
When first responders arrived, they located a female with a gunshot wound to the head.
Medics pronounced the victim deceased in the upper level of the home. Police detained one man from the scene.
