GREENSBURG, Pa. —
The Westmoreland County coroner was called to the scene after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Greensburg Monday night.
One person has died following the fire in Westmoreland County.
The fire was reported a little before 11:40 p.m. at Autumn Brook Apartments in the area of Indiana Avenue near Luzerne Street and Allegheny Street.
Firefighters spent hours on the scene though there did not appear to be major damage from the outside of the structure.Officials have not released identities of anyone involved in the incident.
There was no initial word on the cause of the fire.

HAVANA — A fire set off by a lightning strike at an oil storage facility raged uncontrolled in the Cuban city of Matanzas, where four explosions and flames injured 121 people and left 17 firefighters missing. Cuban authorities said a unidentified body had been found late Saturday.
Firefighters and other specialists were still trying to quell the blaze at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, where the fire began during a thunderstorm Friday night, the Ministry of Energy and Mines tweeted. Authorities said about 800 people were evacuated from the Dubrocq neighborhood closest to the fire,
The government said it had asked for help from international experts in “friendly countries” with experience in the oil sector.
Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío said the U.S. government had offered technical help to quell the blaze. On his Twitter account, he said the “proposal is in the hands of specialists for the due coordination.”
Minutes later, President Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked Mexico , Venezuela, Russia, Nicaragua, Argentina and Chile for their offers of help. A support flight from Mexico arrived Saturday night.

Several people escaped when fire broke out inside of a home in Pittsburgh’s Perry North neighborhood on Sunday night.
The fire was reported shortly before 11:50 p.m. at a home on the 3900 block of Dewey Avenue.
No injuries were reported.There was no initial word on the cause of the fire.

Crews responded to a three-alarm fire at the U.S. Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh.
Officials said there were no injuries or entrapment in the building on Grant Street. The call came in around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Fire is contained within the restaurant kitchen space and is knocked down,” Pittsburgh Public Safety said on Twitter.

A fire left a house destroyed in Wharton Township, Fayette County, Sunday afternoon.
The Wharton Township Assistant Fire Chief said one person lived in the home, located on Wharton Furnace Road.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

PITTSBURGH —
A fire that initially broke out Monday evening in Pittsburgh’s Bluff neighborhood rekindled early Tuesday morning.
The fire was initially reported at a home along Van Braam Street around 10 p.m. A little after 2 a.m. Tuesday, the fire rekindled and firefighters returned to the scene. Crews were able to put out that rekindled fire just after 3 a.m.
In all, four homes were damaged. No injuries were reported.

He said his tenants, who are college students, called him after they got out of the house. He said the home is a total loss.

A fire destroyed a Penn Hills home early Tuesday morning. The Penn Hills fire chief said all the occupants made it safely out of the house and no one was taken to the hospital, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

BRADENVILLE, Pa. —
Four dogs were killed when fire tore through a home in Bradenville, Westmoreland County, on Thursday morning.
The fire was reported a little after 1:30 a.m. at the home on the 5100 block of Route 982.
Chief Mark Piantine, of the Bradenville Volunteer Fire Department, said a family of four lived in the home but none of them were at home at time, as the parents were working overnight shifts and the children were with their grandmother.
“We talked to the family. They were having some issues with electrical inside. They had a heater going. We’re going to rule that as an electrical issue,” said Chief Paintine.
No injuries were reported.
Chief Piantine said an excavator will be brought in to demolish part of the home following the fire.

PITTSBURGH — A man was rushed to a hospital after he was found on the ground as smoke filled his apartment early Wednesday morning in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood, authorities said.
Firefighters also found a recliner chair on fire as they entered the man’s apartment, located in a building along Churchview Avenue.
Smoke was reported throughout the building just after 1 a.m., and residents were evacuating as firefighters pulled up to the scene.
When crews noticed heavy smoke coming from the man’s apartment, they went inside and pulled him out, officials said. Once out of the building, the man was taken by paramedics to a hospital in critical condition.A woman who lives in the building was evaluated for smoke inhalation, but officials said she was not taken to a hospital.
Investigators said the fire is believed to be accidental. It was contained to the one apartment, but seven others sustained minor smoke and moderate water damage.

GREENSBURG, Pa. — The fire that damaged three homes on Harrison Avenue in Greensburg Thursday morning was not suspicious, according to Greensburg Fire Chief Tom Bell.
Bell believes it started in the basement and was electrical in nature.
”So grateful. That’s my only daughter. I don’t know what I’d do without that child or my grandchildren. They’re my life,” Tina Underwood said.
Underwood’s daughter lives next door to where the fire destroyed a home, and made it out thanks in part to a few good Samaritans.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, firefighters went floor-to-floor to evacuate residents.
Those residents were placed on Port Authority buses and inside a business on Sixth Street.
The Red Cross was notified in case some residents needed temporary assistance and the Salvation Army also was called to the scene.

Firefighters say two people lived inside the home.

PENN HILLS (KDKA) — It’s still a very active scene at Rodi Arms Apartments on Rodi Road — crews have been battling this fire for hours in the frigid temperatures.
The Penn Hills Fire Marshal tells us the fire started after someone started cooking and left it unattended.

Listening to scanner chatter about the fire — at one point this morning crews had left the scene thinking it was out — but got called back because it started again.
From the looks of it — the main portion of this fire has taken out the roof of the apartment building.
The fire marshal says — at least four tenants have been displaced because of it.

While they wait to see what becomes of their homes — a Port Authority bus is being used as a warming shelter.
No injuries have been reported.
And crews had to cut the power off in the area, so they’ve opened up a warming center for families affected at the Penn Hills Senior Center on Jefferson Road.

One person was rescued from a porch roof when fire broke out in a home in the Pittsburgh’s Middle Hill neighborhood.
The fire was reported a little after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 2300 block of Reed Street.
The person who was rescued was taken to the hospital.No other injuries were reported.
The Red Cross is helping several people who were displaced by the fire.
An investigation is underway into the cause.

The Bronx apartment where a fire erupted that killed 17 people had several space heaters running at the time of the fire — and all of them, including the one that sparked the fatal blaze, had been left on for days, FDNY sources said Tuesday.
Firefighters made the discovery as they sifted through the scorched rubble of the second-floor in the duplex apartment where the Sunday morning fire started.

PITTSBURGH — Three people, including a police officer, were taken to a hospital after a fire broke out early Friday morning at a home in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood.
The fire, which sparked about 2 a.m., burned at a home on Sebring Avenue.
A 70-year-old woman suffered burns, officials said. Firefighters found her and paramedics rushed her to a hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
A 50-year-old man was also being treated for multiple burns at a hospital, where officials said he was listed in critical condition.
The police officer who was taken to a hospital suffered smoke inhalation, officials said.
Homes on either side of the one that caught fire were evacuated as a precaution.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

13 people dead after row house fire in Fairmount section of Philadelphia, sources say
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames shooting from the second story of the three-story row house.At least two others are injured.
There was no immediate word as to the ages of those who died. Neighbors say there were a number of children who lived inside the home.
Neighbor Bill Richards who lived on the block for 24 years says he heard a woman yell, “Oh my God! Oh my God!”
He then heard fire trucks and came outside.
“It’s very upsetting,” Richards said. “I just can’t wrap myself around it.”
Richards spoke about a young man he has watched grow up who lives in the building.
“It’s a great neighborhood – a varied neighborhood. There are houses that have single families, multi-families, there are apartments, a lot of renters but there are single families. I’ve been here for 24 years. I love the neighborhood,” Richards said.
