Are Classic movies, Old and New, The Way To Go When Theatres Reopen? Could This Be The Best Idea For Moviegoers?

Harry Potter movies, “Footloose,” “The Wizard of Oz,” the “Jurassic” series and more will play at Epic Theatres of West Volusia’s drive-in theater through June

Epic Theatres of West Volusia, a movie theater in Deltona, Florida is offering drive-in movies nightly. The entertainment option has been well-received by families looking for something fun to do while following social distancing guidelines outside of their homes.

DELTONA — As the sun was setting, Holly Pell and her family arrived at Epic Theatres of West Volusia and settled in for a movie.

They never left their pickup.

It was the New Smyrna Beach family’s second visit since the theater’s conversion to show movies drive-in style, a change prompted by the coronavirus pandemic, but they looked like pros, having set up an inflatable mattress in the truck bed with plenty of pillows, blankets, snacks and drinks.

“I thought it was pretty fun,” said Cypress Wood, Pell’s 14-year-old niece.

“And you can just lay under the stars,” Lydia Pell, Holly’s 12-year-old daughter said.

Local DJ’s Take Party On The Road, Host Mobile Dance Parties Throughout Pittsburgh Communities – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh area DJs had a change of tempo on Saturday.

Truck beds became DJ booths with generators, laptops, and turntables strapped to the back.

Almost 40 local DJs hit the streets laying beats down in about 50 neighborhoods for a mobile DJ dance party.

“We host parties we host events and help people have the most amazing time with their families but we haven’t been able to do that,” said DJ Willie T, who was participating in the parade in the Elizabeth Township neighborhood.

By the looks of it, the message was well-received.

Residents emerged from their homes and onto their porches. They danced along from their stoops and lawns while maintaining social distancing.

The parade came as a total surprise for the family of little Finnegan Connors of Elizabeth Township, who was celebrating his 4th birthday with a block party when the mobile DJ booth rolled passed his house.

“We had a DJ and it turned into a dance party and it was amazing,” said Courtney Connors, Finnegan’s mom.

Shyheed Hatch was one of the DJs mixing it up on Saturday.

He told KDKA, music has helped him get through some tough times. He’s hopeful the community had the same reaction.

“I love music. Music is everything to me. It saved me a lot but today it’s for the community. It’s bigger than ourselves. That’s what we’re here to do,” said Hatch.

Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival canceled | TribLIVE.com

The Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival, scheduled for July 2-5 in Twin Lakes Park, has been canceled.

“It was a difficult decision for the board to make, and we waited as long as we possible could,” said Executive Director Diane Shrader. “But public safety has to come first, and there are still so many unknowns.”

A major factor in the decision was concern for the vendors.

“Our vendors come from as far as California and Florida,” Shrader said. “Would they be able to travel? Could they find hotel rooms? Could we provide for their safety?”

The festival will go on in virtual form, Shrader said. Links to vendor and band websites will be available on the festival website.

TV Q&A: Why are some daytime soaps in reruns? | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Q: Why is the daytime serial “General Hospital” now showing repeats on Fridays, calling them “Friday Flashbacks”? Are they rationing episodes due to the pandemic until they are able to shoot on a regular basis again or is it something else entirely?

-JOE VIA EMAIL

Rob: Soaps record their episodes months in advance, but even some of them have exhausted their pre-taped inventory during the COVID-19 pandemic with the ABC show expected to run out of original episodes by the end of May.

So, yes, the Friday reruns of “General Hospital” are an effort to stretch out new episodes longer. TheWrap.com reports “GH” is also adding flashbacks to new episodes in another effort to stretch out the run of original episodes.CBS soaps “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” went into reruns on April 25 and are now airing theme weeks of reruns. This week “Y&R” features episodes dating back to 1981 for “Victor and Nikki: A Lifetime of Love,” while “B&B” reaches back to 1991 for its “Epic Weddings Week.”NBC’s “Days of our Lives” is in better shape with enough original episodes stockpiled to see the show through to October.

You need to be careful with these social media trends, FBI Pittsburgh warns

PITTSBURGH — Be careful what information you share on social media. That’s the warning from FBI Pittsburgh as a number of trending social media topics can lead to fraud.

While they might seem like fun games, they can reveal answers to common password retrieval security questions, according to the FBI. Fraudsters then use that information to reset account passwords and gain access.

Examples of things the FBI wants you to be careful of are posting high school photos in support of the Class of 2020, posting pictures of your first car, answering questions about your best friend and providing the name of your first pet, as well as identifying your first concert, favorite restaurant or favorite teacher. Tagging your mother is also advised against because it could reveal a maiden name.

Easter has changed for many people this year. Most of us will be having an intimate Easter at home.

“We’d like to get all the orders by Saturday at the latest, so that we can prepare,” owner Greg Ackerman said.

Ackerman is offering his fine dining menu for Easter, which includes filet, salmon oscar, short ribs and other options.

“We’re seeing individual orders, we are seeing orders for two people,” Ackerman said. “It hurts your heart because you feel for that grandmother who is not gonna be able to see her grandchildren or her children for Easter. But, we’re happy that we are able to provide at least some sense of Easter dinner.”

DiAnoia’s Eatery, in the Strip District, has sold out of their Easter meals.

“We sold over 450 of them,” owner Aimee DiAndrea Anoia said.

DiAndrea Anoia said they are still offering their homemade pasta boxes, which include fresh bread and wine.

Both DiAndrea Anoia and Ackerman agree that they are able to continue serving, and offering Easter, due to the generosity of their customers.

“They’ve really been good to us,” said Ackerman “That’s what’s keeping us afloat, it’s a tough time, but it’s a tough time for everyone.”

The winner of a $533 million lottery jackpot wasn’t sure he could believe his eyes. So, when his mother called to say someone in his new home state had won it, his response was: It wasn’t me.

Forty-seven-year-old Richard Wahl, of Vernon, New Jersey, was introduced Friday during a news conference at lottery headquarters after winning the half-billion March Mega Millions drawing, the largest single jackpot in state history.

Netflix pulls out of Cannes amid feud with festival – CBS News

NEW YORK — The feud between Netflix and Cannes Film Festival is growing. Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, on Wednesday said the streaming giant is pulling its films from the Cannes Film Festival, further intensifying an ongoing dispute between Netflix and the world’s most prestigious film festival.

Cannes earlier banned any films without theatrical distribution in France from its Palme d’Or competition. That essentially rules out Netflix movies, which are released either on a day-and-date strategy — meaning simultaneously on Netflix and in some theaters — or simply go straight to Netflix. In France, it’s a law that films can’t be released on home entertainment platforms until 36 months after their theatrical release.

That still left Netflix the option of participating outside of competition at Cannes. But in an interview with Variety published Wednesday, Sarandos said he doesn’t want to send Netflix releases if they won’t be treated equally with other movies.

Google Maps’ Street View Won’t Let You Unblur Images

Recently, the internet has noticed something peculiar about Google Maps: Once something gets blurred in Google Street View, there’s no turning back. Here’s how to blur an image in Google Maps—and why you should think twice before doing it.

Last month, a Reddit post in a group for posting life tips detailed how users who are unhappy with Google’s Street View pictures can request them to be blurred on Maps. There is any number of reasons why someone might want to do so. Google, for example, has always blurred the fronts of domestic violence shelters to protect victims.
