Two men arrested after Georgia manhunt that left deputy critically injured – CNN

(CNN)Two men have been arrested following a manhunt in Georgia that left a deputy in critical condition, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI said preliminary information indicated the deputy was shot during a pursuit Saturday that began in Seminole County, Georgia, when a deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop for reckless driving on two men driving in a white pickup truck with a Florida tag.
The men refused to stop and fired a weapon at officers pursuing them, who returned fire, the GBI said in a news release. Decatur County deputies later joined the pursuit.
The suspects drove into the driveway of a home and “attempted to gain entry shooting through the door” but left after the homeowner returned fire, according to the release.

One of the suspects then shot a Decatur County deputy arriving at the scene, the GBI said. The deputy was taken to a local hospital for surgery and is in critical condition.

The suspects fled in their truck, which they wrecked “a short time later in a wooded area,” the release said. A Georgia State Patrol helicopter and crew joined the manhunt following the wreck.

One of the suspects, identified as Brad Phillips, 41, was taken into custody without further incident, the GBI said in the release. He’s been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

The GBI identified the second suspect as Troy Arthur Phillips. He has been arrested and is in police custody.

Seven Springs seeing surge of catalytic converter thefts | TribLIVE.com

Thieves have been hacking parts off cars to sell for scrap in and around the borough of Seven Springs in Somerset and Fayette counties, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

State police spokesman Steven Limani told WPXI about 30 catalytic converters have been stolen off of area vehicles in the past few weeks.

Catalytic converters, which are located between the engine and muffler of almost all modern cars, filter harmful emissions that would otherwise pollute the air.

They contain precious metals like palladium, platinum and rhodium — which makes them valuable targets for thieves who sell them for scrap.

At around 2:50 pm, Lopinto said deputies responded to the shooting at the Jefferson Gun Outlet in the 6700 block of Airline Drive.

Deputies found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Lopinto.

JPSO sources say that a man entered the gun outlet with a loaded gun unholstered.

Sources say that the man got into an argument with a clerk who told him he should not have a loaded gun until he got inside the range.

According to JPSO sources, shots were fired during the argument when at least two customers on the range engaged the man.

The man was shot, but also fired back at the two customers who were also injured, according to JPSO sources.

At this time, Lopinto said it appears a suspect shot two victims inside the location, then was engaged by the two customers and shot outside the location by multiple other individuals.

The suspect is one of the deceased on scene, according to Lopinto.

Greensburg woman charged with endangering children, drug possession after traffic stop | TribLIVE.com

A Greensburg woman pulled over early Tuesday for driving erratically during a snow storm without functioning headlights was later arrested by city police and charged with illegal possession of crack cocaine and heroin.

Sarah K. Walters, 28, also was charged with child endangerment because, police say, she had two young children, ages 3 and 5, in her van who were not secured in child safety seats and left a third child, 8, at her apartment unsupervised during the trip.

Patrolman Henry Fontana Jr. said the incident began at 12:41 a.m. on the 700 block of Highland Avenue when he noticed Walters’s van with improperly working headlights having trouble navigating the snow-covered road. He pulled her over in the Nature’s Way parking lot, according to police reports.

Fontana said, when he questioned Walters, he saw two children not properly secured in child safety seats and discovered Walters in possession of suspected crack cocaine, heroin and devices to ingest the drugs.

“Through investigation, it was determined that Walters left a third child, an 8-years-old girl, at home and unattended as she drove to a Greensburg residence to purchase crack cocaine and heroin,” Fontana wrote in court documents.

Judge Releases the ‘Pink Hat’ Capitol Riot Suspect Rachel Powell – Pittsburgh Current

Just about a month after actively participating in the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th, Rachel Powell had a video detention hearing in the Federal Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, February 9th. Easy to spot during the riot with her distinctive pink knit hat and black jacket with fur lined hoodie, Powell became known on social media as the ‘Pink Hat Lady’ or ‘Bullhorn Lady.’ Following the hearing, Magistrate Judge Lisa Pupo Lenihan ordered the conditional release of the 40-year-old mother of eight, pending a stay granted to the federal prosecutor until 5:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jessica Lieber Smolar, attorney for the United States, indicated that an indictment has not yet been handed down on the case of USA v Rachel Powell, but the charges against Powell of obstruction, depredation of government property, restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon, and violent entry or disorderly conduct, come with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

FBI Special Agent Carlos Fontanez testified to ample evidence of Powell’s actions that day. In one video, she can be seen working in concert with another rioter to use a large pipe as a battering ram to smash one of the windows of the Capitol Building, one that was eventually breached.

In another video, she uses her bullhorn to instruct other insurrectionists that, “People should probably coordinate together if you’re going to take this building,” and “We got to break another window to make in and out easy.” There are also photographs and videos of her inside the building.
