All 18 passengers survive Russian plane’s hard landing in Siberia

A Russian Antonov An-28 passenger plane carrying 18 people made a hard landing after disappearing from radars Friday while flying over the Siberian region of Tomsk, according to reports.

The twin-engine Antonov An-28 turboprop was flying from the town of Kedrovy to the regional capital of Tomsk when communication with it was lost, said local Gov. Sergei Zhvachkin’s office, according to Agence France-Presse.
Fears had swirled over the fate of the plane, its passengers and three crew members when it disappeared from radar.

Rescuers who rushed to the area where contact was lost eventually located the survivors in a wooded section near the badly damaged plane, which was found upside down, Reuters reported.

Police Provide More Info On Fatal Motorcycle Crash – ButlerRadio.com – Butler, PA

Police are providing more information on a fatal crash that happened late last month.

The motorcycle crash happened on Chicora Road around 9:15 p.m. on June 29th. Police say 70-year-old Thomas Curry of Rimersburg was driving north near Holly Road when a deer ran out in front of him.

He collided with the deer and his bike then overturned in the opposite lane.

Curry fell off his bike and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian where he later died from his injuries.

Philippines military plane crash kills at least 29 but dozens survive – BBC News

A military plane has crashed in the southern Philippines killing at least 29 people, with dozens more pulled alive from the burning wreckage.

The transporter was carrying more than 90 people, mostly troops, when it overshot the runway on Jolo island.

Fifty people were injured and 17 are missing, the military said. A nearby military hospital treated survivors.

A large ball of black smoke was seen above the wreckage of the plane, a Lockheed C130 Hercules.

Pictures of the site published by local media show burning debris in a wooded area close to a number of buildings.

Two people injured after 2-vehicle crash in Pittsburgh

Two people were taken to the hospital and a driver ran off following a two-vehicle crash in Pittsburgh.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Bennett Street and North Braddock Avenue, right on the line of Pittsburgh’s Homewood North and Homewood South neighborhoods.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said police, paramedics and firefighters arrived on scene to find a woman outside of an SUV and another woman still inside the vehicle.

Both were taken to the hospital

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash ran from the scene.

Police are investigating the incident.

Route 22 collision: 2 people injured in Salem Township crash

SALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. —Two people were in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Route 22 in Westmoreland County early Friday morning.

The collision at the intersection of Route 22 and Route 819 in Salem Township was reported at about 1 a.m.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, the fire chief said. No information on the patients’ conditions was immediately available.

State police were investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

Two-car crash in Pittsburgh sends 4 kids, 3 adults to hospital – WPXI

PITTSBURGH — Four kids and three adults were taken to local hospitals after a crash in Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the crash just before 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Carson Street and Corliss Street.

Medics transported seven people to the hospital. That included four children and one adult from one vehicle and two adults from the other vehicle.

One child was transported in critical condition. The others were reported stable.

Police said they are still investigating what caused the crash.

Florida Pride parade: 1 person is dead after a truck hits pedestrians – CNN

Two pedestrians at a Pride parade near Miami on Saturday were hit by a truck, leaving one dead and the other injured, according to police.”

Both males were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where one was pronounced deceased,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Department detective Ali Adamson at a Saturday night press conference. The second victim is expected to survive.

Adamson said the FBI is assisting with the investigation but declined to say whether investigators believed the incident was intentional.

8 hospitalized after vehicle breaks through guardrail, drives into crowd at Texas racetrack – ABC News

At least eight people are hospitalized with three in critical condition following a crash during a race at a mud track in Texas Sunday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said one of the vehicles, “due to unknown reasons,” left the track and broke through the guard rail, hitting spectators and three other vehicles.

El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, citing a briefing he received from Chief Tom Whitten of the Sheriff’s Office, told ABC News El Paso affiliate KVIA that a total of 29 people were hurt.

The incident happened around 6:35 p.m. local time in the 17600 block of Island Guadalupe Road.

No other information, including the names of the victims, has been released. The driver’s identity and his or her condition have also not been released publicly.

3 lives lost after car crashes into a Pittsburgh plasma clinic – WPXI

PITTSBURGH — Police say three people are dead after a car crashed into a plasma donation center on Western Avenue in the Manchester neighborhood.

A Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) notification was issued due to the severity of the damage and the unknown amount of entrapped victims at the time that police and EMS arrived.

Medics pronounced three victims dead, one of them being a person in the vehicle.

There were around 10 employees and five doners in the building at the time, now many of them are left shaken. One witness was inside the building at the time of the crash and says it was a surreal moment for him.

“Just, I mean just shock really, it was just numb, like I, I’m still you know heart racing, just not sure what was happening,” explained donor Shane McDevitt.

A small fire started in the building after the crash and two first responders were treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews managed to pull a red Hyundai out of the building.

In a statement about the incident the Biomat USA Corporate Office said:

Police said two others were also injured. One of them is in critical condition. or center. The safety of our employees and donors is always our first priority. We are grateful to the first responders and our employees who acted quickly to prevent any additional injuries. Biomat USA is cooperating with the local authorities as the investigation continues.” A Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) notification was issued due to the severity of the damage and unknown amount of entrapped victims.

Police continue to interview witnesses about what happened. The next step is to figure out whether the building is structurally sound. Channel 11 will let you know as we get those updates.

2 San Diego police officers among 3 killed in wrong-way crash on 5 Freeway | KTLA

Two San Diego police officers were among three people killed Friday after their car was struck by a driver going the wrong way on an interstate highway, authorities said.

The officers were in a blue city-owned Ford Fusion sedan when they were hit by a white Honda Civic going at a high rate of speed in the wrong way down Interstate 5 near the U.S.-Mexico border south of downtown San Diego, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The female driver of the Civic was also killed after her car slammed into the officers’ sedan and burst into flames.

The officers were identified as a married couple, Detective Ryan Park, 32, and his wife, Detective Jamie Huntley-Park, 33.

A Blairsville man was killed in an ATV crash in Westmoreland County on Sunday.

DERRY TWP., Pa. — A Blairsville man was killed in an ATV crash in Westmoreland County on Sunday.

Pennsylvania State Police said the incident occurred around 10 a.m. Sunday on Pipers Road, Derry Twp.

Joshua P. Shugars, 25, of Blairsville, was driving an Kawasaki Brute Force V-Twin 700 ATV when it crashed, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

No helmet or protective clothing was used and speed and careless driving appear to have contributed to the crash, police said.

Black Hawk helicopter crashes in Florida, 4 believed dead: reports | Fox News

A Black Hawk helicopter used for firefighting, with four people aboard, crashed into a Florida marsh on Tuesday afternoon, killing at least one occupant, according to reports.

One occupant was confirmed dead but emergency responders were not hopeful of finding any survivors, reports said.

“The crash appears to be a total loss,” Leesburg Fire Rescue officials wrote on Facebook.

An unspecified mechanical failure was believed to have caused the crash.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A pedestrian was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, police responded to a call of a person hit by a vehicle in the 500 block of N. Craig Street just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

When police arrived, they found a man who had hit the windshield of a vehicle after he stepped off the curb and into the street.

He suffered multiple fractures to his arms and legs.

Medics took him to the hospital in serious condition.

The woman driving the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the police.

Police are investigating.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said the crash was reported around 5 a.m.

“Responding officers located the vehicle, but the driver had left the scene,” a Public Safety statement said.

There were no initial reports of any injuries.

Authorities described the damage as moderate to significant. Inspectors from the city’s Permits, Licenses, and Inspections department will determine the integrity of the building.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.

Inbound lanes of West Liberty Avenue reopened shortly after 6 a.m.

9-year-old girl killed in Butler County crash

A 9-year-old girl from Baltimore, Maryland, was killed in a crash in Butler County.

The crash happened Sunday evening on Route 422 in Clearfield Township.

When the vehicle towing a trailer stopped to make a left into a driveway it was struck from behind by the vehicle the girl was in.

The 9-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle the girl was in was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The two people in the vehicle that were towing a trailer were not injured.

State police are investigating.

Police: 16-year-old crashes stolen car in Westmoreland County

State police said a 16-year-old crashed a stolen car in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, on Tuesday night.

The 1997 Cadillac Northstar had been reported stolen by Latrobe police.

The teen wasn’t hurt but was taken into custody by police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Plane crashes in Jefferson County, Colorado. Pilot is found dead | 9news.com

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — The pilot and only occupant of a small aircraft has died, after the plane crashed into a remote area of Jefferson County, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) said.

>The single-engine aircraft was reported missing Saturday night, but was located Sunday morning after search crews were able to see the plane from the air just after 10 a.m., according to JCSO Public Information Officer Mike Taplin.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the single-engine Magnus Fusion 212 crashed overnight about 20 miles south of Conifer, with just the pilot on board. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

“The area that it was found was very difficult to get to. It took several hours for Alpine Rescue to get to him,” said Sgt. Rod Parker with JCSO. “It’s about two miles down the trailhead. And about a half-mile off of that trail on the side of a hill.”

The United States Air Force (USAF) received a notification from the aircraft’s emergency beacon and contacted JCSO Saturday night at about 8:15 p.m., according to Taplin. The aircraft was reported to have gone missing in the area of Wigwam Creek Trail, JCSO said.

Skateboarder struck by vehicle in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood | TribLIVE.com

A man riding an electric skateboard was struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, police said.

Medics took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of the crash at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Baum Boulevard about 3:40 p.m.

Initially, a Pittsburgh officer who happened to be nearby attended to the male victim in the street.

The person’s age and home residence were not released.

Two apprehended after hitting Pittsburgh police cruiser – WPXI

PITTSBURGH — Two people were arrested after an incident involving several police jurisdictions after a police cruiser that was hit on Thursday.

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that two people were in custody after an incident on Woodstock Avenue in Swissvale. They were taken into custody in Braddock after bailing from the vehicle.

Pittsburgh City Police confirm the incident initially began after a the suspect’s vehicle made minor contact with a Zone 6 officer’s vehicle at the intersection of Glen Mawr and Hunt streets.

Motorcyclist hits fire hose on Philadelphia, Pa. street, dies after crash – WPXI

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A motorcyclist riding past the scene of a fire in north Philadelphia ran over a fire hose, went out of control, and died after a crash, authorities said.

Police said the 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene minutes after the crash shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the West Oak Lane neighborhood.

Officials said firefighters had stretched a hose across Broad Street to battle the flames, and the motorcyclist hit the house while heading north near 68th Avenue.

WPVI-TV reported that the rider was thrown about 300 feet. Investigators told the station that the fire began in the kitchen of an unoccupied home and spread to the second floor. There was no immediate word on a cause.

Five people were killed and one was hospitalized following a helicopter crash in an Alaskan glacier, officials said.

The Alaska Department Of Public Safety said Alaska State Troopers were alerted Saturday night of reports of an overdue helicopter and crash in the Knik Glacier, roughly 54 miles east of Anchorage.
