Pittsburgh man arrested, charged in Johnstown after allegedly running over woman – WPXI

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A Pittsburgh man was arrested and charged in Johnstown after police said he tried to rob a woman late Saturday night and then ran over her with a pickup truck.

Police said 25-year-old Denzelle Kendrick was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and robbery among other charges.

According to investigators, officers were called to an address in Johnstown around 10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a woman who had actually been beaten and run over by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Kendrick was identified as the driver. He was seen on surveillance camera reportedly trying to steal the woman’s purse during the encounter.

Officers said Kendrick took off and was eventually pursued by state police troopers into Somerset County. Court documents said troopers were able to stop him using the “box” method, where law enforcement vehicles surround a suspect vehicle and all slow down. This causes the suspect vehicle to also slow as a result.

Troopers said speeds reached more than 105 mph before they were able to stop Kendrick.

He appeared before a judge Sunday morning.

Police stunned after nearly $500,000 worth of luxury cars stolen right off lot in Allegheny County – WPXI

WEXFORD, Pa — One local police chief told Channel 11 that a recent crime spree in his community could be one for the history books.

Northern Regional Police Chief John Sicilia said the stolen cars are worth nearly $500,000.

One Bentley, For F250 Platinum Truck, Two Mercedes Benz and Two BMWs were stolen from the Bentley Pittsburgh dealership along route 19 early Thursday morning. Chief Sicilia says the crime started across the street at the enterprise in Warrendale, where the same group stole several license plates from rental cars to use on the Bentleys.

The chief says thieves then broke into the Bentleys by manipulating the key lock box on each car.

“We did enter the license plates and the vehicles into NCIC so any police officer around the country who would run that plate or VIN it would come back stolen.”

It now appears the thieves left the state and the cars are long gone. So far police have been able to locate one Bentley which was found abandoned in Summerville, West Virginia.

Pennsylvania Turnpike: Free rides take big toll on finances

More than $104 million in Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls went uncollected last year as the agency fully converted to all-electronic tolling, with the millions of motorists who don’t use E-ZPass having a nearly 1 in 2 chance of riding without paying under the “toll-by-plate” license plate camera system.

An internal turnpike report issued in July and obtained by The Associated Press through a Right-to-Know Law request showed nearly 11 million out of the total of about 170 million turnpike rides generated no revenue for the agency in the year that ended May 31.

“We take this issue very seriously. It is a big number, there’s no question,” turnpike Chief Executive Mark Compton said. “But we, as an organization, are leaving no stone unturned in the way in which we’re going after that leakage.”

Toll revenue “leakage” – an industry euphemism for uncollected tolls – has become the focus of turnpike agencies across the country as the use of E-ZPass transponders and license plate cameras continues to spread.

It is a particular problem for the debt-strapped Pennsylvania Turnpike, where more than half of its total revenue goes to pay borrowing costs and tolls have more than quadrupled in 12 years for the minority of motorists who don’t have E-Z Pass to pay for rides.

Last year, license plates could not be identified in 1.8 million Pennsylvania Turnpike rides, bills were undeliverable in just over 1 million instances, and motor vehicle agencies failed to provide vehicle owner addresses more than 1.5 million times. An additional 6.7 million transactions were marked as “not paid.”

After tolls and fees go uncollected for about three years, the turnpike writes them off.

GM recalling another 70,000 Bolt electric cars – CNN

(CNN Business)General Motors is recalling another 73,000 Bolt EV and EUV electric vehicles in the United States and Canada for a problem that could cause the vehicles to catch fire.

GM had earlier announced that the recall would cost $800 million, but that was before the recall was expanded to cover all remaining Bolt vehicles. The recall is now expected to cost an additional $1 billion.
The recall comes after GM had previously recalled about 70,000 Bolt vehicles for the same potential problem. The recall now covers Bolt EV and EUVs from 2017 to 2022.
The recalled Bolt vehicles can catch fire after being charged due to a manufacturing defect, the company said. Until the batteries in the recalled vehicles can be checked and replaced, if necessary, GM recommends the vehicles be set to charge to only 90%. Owners should also charge their vehicles more frequently and avoid allowing the battery to be depleted to less than about 70 miles of driving range. The vehicles should also be parked outdoors right after charging and should not be charged indoors.
GM now says it is pursuing reimbursements from Korean battery manufacturer LG, the company that made the batteries that, GM said, are the cause of the problem.
LG did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
GM had previously said that the problem with the Bolt batteries was caused by two rare battery manufacturing errors in model years 2017 to 2019 vehicles, and that more recent models did not undergo the same battery manufacturing process and so were not included in the recall. Now, though, GM is recalling 9,335 more model year 2019 Bolt EVs and another 63,683 model year 2020 through 2022 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV models. The Bolt EUV is a taller crossover SUV version of the Bolt EV.
