PAINT TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
State police said a 34-year-old man fell asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, leading to a head-on crash in Clarion County that killed two people.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. Monday.
State police said the 34-year-old driver was traveling northbound on State Route 66 when he crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head-on.The driver of that second vehicle, Carrie Hunt, 54, of Clarion, was pronounced dead on the scene.
A passenger in that second vehicle, Gilbert Slaugenhaupt, 73, of Shippenville, died after being taken to the hospital.
A 43-year-old woman who was in the backseat of the second vehicle was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital with injuries.
Police said the 34-year-old man driving the first vehicle told them he had just left work and believed he had fallen asleep behind the wheel.
