A crash inside Pittsburgh’s Liberty Tunnel sent a man the hospital on Tuesday morning.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. on the inbound side of the tunnel.
Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety spokesperson Cara Cruz said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a guardrail and caught fire.Public safety originally said both the female driver and a male passenger were taken to the hospital. Officials later said only the male passenger was transported. He is reported to be in critical condition. The female driver was given a field sobriety test on the scene and was “transported for further testing.”
The inbound side of the tunnel was closed for about two hours before reopening just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
