Father and son charged with breaking into church in Pittsburgh

A father and son are charged with breaking into an old Pittsburgh church to steal items from inside.

David Kearns, 53, and Justin Kearns, 30, both of Pittsburgh, are charged with burglary.

According to a criminal complaint, Pittsburgh police were called to the old Saint Lawrence Church on Penn Avenue in the city’s Garfield neighborhood on Monday.

UPMC currently owns the church which is fenced off and is being demolished.

Police said the fencing was broken into and the Kearns were inside.According to the criminal complaint, David Kearns told police he was there to see the architecture because he’s in construction.

But police said Justin Kearns told officers he and his father were there to “scrap.”
