The 43-year-old victim said she began looking for the AirTag after receiving notifications on her cell phone that one was tracking her location.
Police said they questioned Ronald Roessler, 57, about the incident after he was identified as the owner of the AirTag.
The victim had an active protection from abuse order against Roessler.
Police said Roessler denied involvement and said it was a mistake though a trooper said he saw Roessler delete an AirTag from his phone after he agreed to show the phone to the trooper.
Roessler is charged with stalking and other offenses, and faces a preliminary hearing later this month.
