The crash happened near the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Smithfield Street in downtown Pittsburgh on Tuesday morning.

A woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a bus in downtown Pittsburgh early Tuesday morning, the Port Authority said.

The incident happened a little after 6:15 a.m. near Liberty Avenue and Smithfield Street.

Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said the front of a 61A North Braddock bus struck the woman, who was then caught between the front bumper and the street.

The bus driver was not injured, Brandolph said.

The Port Authority said the driver, a 23-year employee, will be tested for drugs and alcohol as per the authority’s policy.
