$500,000 grant boosts affordable housing efforts in Hazelwood | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

BY MARK BELKO:

A $500,000 state grant will help to boost key affordable housing initiatives in Hazelwood as part of an effort to prevent residents from being displaced as the neighborhood redevelops.

The money, awarded by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, will be used in part to build 12 for-sale houses along Hazelwood Avenue.

City of Bridges Community Land Trust was selected through a request for proposals last year to develop the townhouses and condos, which will be available to households at 50% to 80% of the area median income.

Part of the grant also will be used by the Hazelwood Initiative community development corporation to acquire from a former resident the last 19 of 62 rental units scattered throughout the neighborhood.
