Trees, wires down amid strong wind gusts in Pittsburgh

Fallen trees and power lines have been reported as gusty winds continue across the Pittsburgh area Friday morning.

In Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, a light pole fell on a parked car on Robinson Street. No injuries were reported.

A large tree fell in Shaler Township, crashing into a house on Belladonna Drive. The homeowner said she heard creaking and the wind just before the 60-foot-tall tree hit the house. No injuries were reported.

Gusts could be as strong as 50 mph in some spots, Pittsburgh’s Action Weather meteorologist Ashley Dougherty said. Winds are expected to die down later in the day.

Duquesne Light said it was prepared for potential power outages. The utility said it would be adding additional field crews through Saturday to address possible outages, and that crews were prepared to work around the clock to restore power. They also said they would continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.
