Police: 24-year-old thinking ‘it’d be fun’ to drive across North Park Lake, ends up in the water | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A 24-year-old Franklin Park man faces charges after he attempted to drive across a partially frozen North Park Lake on Wednesday night, only to get his car stuck in the frigid water.

Allegheny County police said the man was not injured.

“He said he thought it’d be fun to drive on the ice but then he thought it was a parking lot,” said Lt. Cmdr. Scott Scherer of the county police department.

Cmdr. Scherer said the driver, who was not identified, passed several signs around 10:30 p.m. noting he was in a boat launch area and ended up on an icy part of the lake. Soon after, the ice gave way and the rear driver’s side of the car fell through the ice. The driver was able to get out of the car, and someone else called 911, according to police.
