Penn Hills man found shot to death inside ransacked home

A Penn Hills man was found shot to death inside his home Wednesday evening after a report of a home invasion, police said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner as 35-year-old Aaron Evans, was found dead when police responded to the 7200 block of Lawton Street a little after 6:15 p.m.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened inside the home, but we know he was forced back inside the home. At some point, he was shot,” county police Inspector Andrew Schurman said.

The house had been ransacked, and police said robbery appears to be a motive for the shooting.

“That’s something we’re trying to determine more definitively — what the motive was, and why he was selected,” Schurman said. “At this point, we have no reason to think he was randomly selected. There was something in his life that caused these men to show up and ransack his home.”

No suspects have been identified. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call county police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Anonymous calls will be accepted.
