Pepsi plans on ditching plastic for aluminum | WPXI

Pepsi is ditching plastic bottles for some of its products in an attempt to reduce plastic waste, WTVD reports.

As early as 2020, Pepsi’s Aquafina water will be sold in aluminum cans at restaurants. The company is still working out the details of a rollout to retail stores.

Plastic waste is piling up. Experts have said there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050, according to WTVD.

“Tackling plastic waste is one of my top priorities and I take this challenge personally,” Pepsi CEO Ramon Laguarta said in a statement. “We are doing our part to address the issue head on by reducing, recycling and reinventing our packaging.”

HEALTH INSURANCE: Pennsylvania is poised to take over health insurance exchange

H

Pennsylvania is poised to roll out its own online health insurance exchange to take the place of the one run by the federal government for the state’s residents since 2014, saying it can save money for hundreds of thousands of policy-buyers.

The Republican-controlled Legislature gave final approval Friday to legislation authorizing the move, after Gov. Tom Wolf had pressed for the bill’s passage this month in the hope that its savings measures can take partial effect in 2020 and full effect in 2021.

HEART ATTACK STUDY: Study: More young people having heart attacks | WPXI

A new study found more and more young people are having heart attacks.

Cardiologist Dr. Ron Blankstein just authored a study showing the heart attack rate among Americans under the age of 40 is rising dramatically, even though heart attack rates across the board have been falling.

“These are often individuals when they have symptoms they may not think this is a heart attack, again it’s not on their radar at all,” Blankstein said.

The study found that about one in five heart attack victims were under the age of 40 and that number has increased every year for the past decade.

What to watch for at tonight’s second debate

Now we’re on to Night Two, and here are the storylines we’re watching:

  1. Biden vs. Bernie: It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for – the Democratic frontrunner (Joe Biden) versus the man who’s been in second or third in the polling (Bernie Sanders). And it’s easily the party’s central ideological fight (Obama-era pragmatism versus Sanders’ democratic socialism).
  2. Harris vs. Buttigieg: Night Two also features two other top-tier Democrats – Kamala Harris (someone who’s long been considered a contender to be the party’s ultimate presidential nominee) and Pete Buttigieg (who’s had the most surprising rise so far of the Dem race). Can either of them steal thunder from Biden and Bernie?
