Uber launches US subscription service in five cities – BBC News

Taxi-hailing firm Uber has launched a membership scheme dubbed Ride Pass, for passengers in five US cities.

The deal allows passengers to avoid price surging, when costs rise at rush hour and other in-demand times.

The fixed-fare plan costs $24.99 (£19) a month in Los Angeles and $14.99 in Austin, Denver, Miami, and Orlando.

Uber plans to expand the scheme to other US cities in 2019, but says it has no plans at present to introduce it in London or other UK cities.

‘Reliable alternative’

The firm is also hoping the initiative will convince passengers that it is more economical to use Uber, and to give up their own cars,

SpaceX’s Starman Roadster has ventured past Mars

Starman and its Tesla Roadster are officially a long, long way from home. SpaceX has confirmed that Falcon Heavy’s test payload has passed Mars’ orbit, putting it at one of its greatest distances away from the Sun (it should reach its far point on November 8th at 1.66AU, or 155 million miles). While it isn’t about to rendezvous with Mars, this is no mean feat for an EV-toting mannequin. And you might want to remember this moment — it’s going to be a long time before Starman is close to Earth.Starman and its Tesla Roadster are officially a long, long way from home. ‘Time change’ time. Get set to move clocks back an hour this weekend – CNN

It’s

(CNN)It’s the first weekend in November. You know what that means: It’s time to “fall back.”

Or more specifically, time for us to move our clocks back as daylight saving timecomes to an end.
It happens at 2 a.m. Sunday, in essence allowing most Americans to relive the 1 a.m. hour all over again.
So people will get an extra hour to sleep or party or maybe go over that sample ballot before voting in Tuesday’s midterms.
