Wind Power could Warm Earth, Study Finds

Researchers say that Wind farms will cause more environmental impact than previously thought.

Wind farms are an important source of renewable energy. They generate electricity by removing energy from the wind. A switch from fossil fuels to wind energy could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and subsequent global warming. But wind farms also modify local climate and affect the transfer of energy, mass and moisture within the air. Therefore, large-scale wind farms can also lead to climate change.

‘Venom’ breaks box office records, ‘A Star Is Born’ shines – CNN

New York (CNN Business)Lady Gaga and a popular Spider-Man villain managed to scare up blockbuster ticket sales in October, a month not known for big returns.

Sony’s “Venom” and Warner Bros.’ “A Star Is Born” did so well they helped bring in the best weekend in October history at the box office, according to comScore.
Sony’s comic book creature feature starring Tom Hardy nabbed the No. 1 spot with an estimated $80 million haul at the domestic box office. That’s an October box office record, knocking off previous record-holder “Gravity,” which brought in $55.7 million in 2013.
“Venom” pulled off its big box office success despite some awful reviews. The film holds a 31% score on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Coming in at No. 2 this weekend is the music-heavy drama “A Star Is Born.”

Mike Tomlin of Pittsburgh Steelers rips on season’s penalty calls

PITTSBURGH — Mike Tomlin is no longer holding back on the way NFL games are officiated.

Tomlin, a member of the NFL’s competition committee, made clear after the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ 41-17 victory Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons that he’s not at all happy with the calls trending around the league.

Asked about linebacker Bud Dupree‘s two face mask penalties, Tomlin said the calls looked legitimate, then hinted many more were not.

“But some of the other stuff, man, is a joke,” Tomlin said. “We gotta get better as a National Football League. Man, these penalties are costing people games and jobs. We gotta get ’em correct. And so I’m pissed about it, to be quite honest with you. But that’s all I’m gonna say on it.”

20 Dead In New York Limo Crash Called The ‘Most Deadly Accident’ In Years : NPR

Twenty people died on Saturday after a limousine crashed in upstate New York, in what safety officials are calling the nation’s worst road accident in nearly a decade.

The crash occurred when a 2001 Ford Excursion limousine, carrying people through the historic town of Schoharie, about 45 minutes west of Albany, failed to stop at an intersection with State Route 30, said Christopher Fiore, first deputy superintendent of the New York State Police.

The limousine crashed into a 2015 Toyota Highlander parked near the Apple Barrel Country Store. All 18 people in the limo, including the driver, died. Two pedestrians who were struck also lost their lives.

“This is the most deadly transportation accident in this country since February of 2009,” National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Robert Sumwalt told reporters.
