Child abuse. “Conversion therapy” is child abuse. There are not two sides to this question and these ads – and the practices they promote – should be illegal everywhere. Full stop. https://twitter.com/rvawonk/status/1034940628487090181

@facebook

We don’t allow ads that promote gay conversion therapy on Facebook. We removed these ads after further review. While we may miss some, we’re working hard to make sure we quickly find and take down bad ads.

On Sunday, The Telegraph reported that Facebook removed some “Conversion therapy” adverts that targeted members of the LGBT community after reports about a flaw with the micro-targeting algorithm employed by the social media giant for choosing audiences for ads.

How Google and Bing choose news stories for search

Google and Bing both have black box algorithms that help rank news, though their content guidelines are largely similar.

How do search engines decide how to rank news-related results?

It’s a top-of-mind question since President Donald Trump accused Google on Tuesday of prioritizing negative coverage from left-leaning outlets, an indictment that appeared to be based on an unscientific report by a conservative news site. Google also denied it uses political bias in search results.

Google is by far the most popular search engine in the United States, with 86 percent market share, according to StatCounter. But there is an alternative: Microsoft‘s Bing.
