A 7-year-old boy was killed and an adult was injured when shots were fired from a passing SUV on Sunday night in the Durkeeville area, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Two people were found shot near the front yard of a home. Both were taken to the hospital, where the child, later identified by police as Tashawn Gallon, died. The unidentified 23-year-old adult was expected to survive.
Police said there were people in the house at the time, but none of them were hit by the gunfire.
Detectives said it’s believed the gunfire came from a small, dark-colored SUV, possibly a gray Toyota. Officers are investigating multiple scenes and speaking with witnesses.
“I know for a fact that the people in these communities where these have happened are outraged as well, as we are, and they should be,” said JSO Assistant Chief Scott Dingee.
Officers said the child was not the intended target,
