‘I just heard a man screaming ‘Get down! Get down!” : Armed carjacker shot dead by SWAT team who stormed restaurant where he was holding diners hostage after high speed car chase in California

After using a gun to steal a car, the man, who has not been named, was involved in a high speed chase before abandoning the vehicle and entering the Chris and Pitt restaurant.

He reportedly fired twice into the air, terrifying customers before he allowed the women and children to leave the building.

Following a one hour stand off in which a police negotiator attempted to end the stalemate, SWAT teams entered the building from the front and back and shot dead the armed gunman.

Recalling the moment the gunman entered the restaurant, one customer described the terrifying scene.

‘We were eating dinner and I just heard a man screaming ‘Get down! Get down!” customer Stella Aguilera, out of breath and near tears, told KCAL-TV.
