A pair of five-year-old Russian boys dug a tunnel under their nursery fence in a plot to buy a luxury car, reported AFP.
While out on a supervised group walk around the nursery grounds, in the city of Magnitogorsk in the Urals region, the children disappeared, according to the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.
Using toy spades from the sandpit they were able to dig a passage under the nursery fence and then embarked on a two kilometre journey to a luxury car showroom.
When a female driver asked why the unaccompanied children were there, they replied they wanted to buy a Jaguar but didn’t have any money.
She put the children in her car and then drove them to the police station.
Their absence was only noticed after they had been missing for half an hour.
Chelyabinsk regional interior ministry confirmed the boy’s escape from the nursery to AFP and said, “We don’t have any details yet, we can only confirm the fact itself” and added it took place several days ago.
Local education authorities fired the supervisor in charge at the time of the incident and gave the acting head a warning.
“This is considered a very serious violation,” said the head of the pre-school department of Magnitogorsk, Olga Denisenko, told Komsomolskaya Pravda.
The children’s parents haven’t filed any complaints against the nursery.
